Meat on Good Friday...Mortal Sin?

I’ve never spoken about the clergy once.

Those words are from the Catholic Answers article.

Sorry! If we’re going to be discussing what constitutes a mortal sin, then this is definitely part of the discussion.
That is the judgement of a moderator…alone.

As for the other, I stand with the Bishops. They alone are the shepherds of the Particular Churches entrusted to their care by the Successor of Peter…it is most certainly not people who lack the ontological character of the Sacrament of Holy Order.

…It won’t ruffle my feathers. 😉

That’s the nature of AL, and it’s agenda. But like I said, I don’t see an appropriate comparison between the two. I could create an analogy of the Friday abstinence which better compares to what is going on with some in the Church over AL. I personally, interpret AL as a call to repentance and Reconciliation… THEN possible Communion (in clear conscience).

It is Good Friday and I have been reading about eating meat on Good Friday. If I understand the Catholic position the following scenario would be accurate:

A Catholic in good standing with the Church walks by a steak house on Good Friday and is suddenly tempted to have a good rib eye steak. He thinks about his temptation to eat the steak and admits to himself that he knows it is a mortal sin to succumb to his craving today but he willfully decides to eat one anyway. After he is finished eating he gets up from the table feeling very satisfied and immediately drops dead. No thought of confession or chance of confession occured. Does the Church teach that he would immediately have sent himself to Hell with this action?
I will never judge or say anyone will go to hell. That’s the job for God. But I believe if any Cathoilic knowingly puts himself willing in a state of moral sin for any reason, again knowing something will separate him from God, he is indeed in big trouble.

You are quite correct…I should have also added “agenda posting” and I am glad you note it.

:sad_yes:

Good. I thoroughly concur. Plus the poster in question has said on other threads that he’s converting to Judaism, and it seems that this is part of many attempts to kind of put down Catholic teachings in an attempt at self-justification. . .perhaps.

Perhaps it goes without saying that not all Catholics read the magazine you quoted from, but I’ll say it anyhow.
You do know that magazine is the one published by the creators of this forum and website?

I haven’t converted yet, was only contemplating it and am still Catholic, but you people are making it so easy to drive me away with all your ‘Christian love’ and mercy. All you people do is accuse, belittle and attack here. Perhaps, this was my final attempt to see if I was going to stay, because admittedly it is very difficult to leave something you have treasured since childhood, but I don’t feel like remaining in a place where I’m unwelcome. I’ve served the Church well for 25 years freely giving my service, time, talent and income, in addition to following every rule and law of the Church to avoid mortal sin at the expense of my own enjoyment and this is what I get, just for believing in a doctrine taught to me by the Church. Anything the parish priests needed and asked for the church I did without hesitation. So don’t think I never did anything for the Church. 😏

Did I offend you?

I don’t really have a good answer to that, but I try to sympathize with all people who have suffered abuse in the name of religion.

of course, it’s always ‘you people’ who are at fault. If you go away and Heaven forbid you do, please don’t make the excuse that ‘you people’ were responsible. None of us is perfect but nobody is forcing you away.

Luke 17
So you also, when you have done all that is commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’”

If you become Jewish, you will be required to give up many foods, and not just on Fridays. There will also be many other inconvenient laws to obey, and as well, it is an axiom that where there are two Jews there are three arguments, so don’t think you’re escaping from vigorous and sometimes not very polite religious debates.
