A friend of mine would say, “Hey, Baby Jesus likes pizza, too!” 🙂
I’ve never understood why Communion referred to as ‘BABY Jesus’ - even though my mother had a habit of saying, if any of us children did anything naughty after Mass ‘how could you do that with little Baby Jesus still inside you!’

At any rate, I’m not so sure that he’s fond of pizza that soon after Mass 😉

Because the Eucharist is the same Incarnation of Christ that came to Mary when she received the Annunciation from the Angel Gabriel - the only difference is that He doesn’t grow in our wombs to become a child and be born. 🙂

Yeah, but it’s also the same adult body that was given up for us, the same adult blood that was shed for the remission of sins on the Cross. I don’t think it makes sense to refer to it in terms of only one of His life stages as opposed to the others.

My aunt used to tell me to “Pray to the baby Jesus” when I was a little girl. I asked my mom one time why she said that because Jesus wasn’t a baby anymore. She told me that my aunt was simply trying to present Jesus in a way that I, as a little girl, could probably relate to.

It still didn’t make sense to me. 😛

I once read an article about praying to the Christ Child…He is known under many titles such as the Divino Nino…It sad past present and future are all the eternal now with God since He stands outside of time…It made a lot of sense, and devotion to the Christ Child is a tender and beautiful thing

Google the titles of the Infant Jesus and read about the miracles that have occurred under these titles…Many parts of the world have great devotion to the Christ Child

Mother Angelica experienced a miracle with an image of the Divino Nino

I have no problem with devotion to the Christ Child at all, what I am unconvinced about is calling the Eucharist ‘baby Jesus’.

It’s the same problem that you might have if I, having a devotion to the Sacred Heart, called the Eucharist ‘Jesus’ heart’.

Certainly His infancy and His Sacred Heart are connected to Eucharistic devotion, but it’s too limiting to simply equate the Blessed Sacrament to one or other aspect of Jesus in such a manner.

:eek:Never heard of the Holy Eucharist refered to as the Baby Jesus??!!

Certainly never by the nus or my parents.

It would seem technically inaccurate anyway. If it were called something else then wouldn’t it be the “33 Year Old Jesus”? 😉

This is pretty cool. I did not know this.

This would actually apply more to my story with my aunt having me pray to the baby Jesus, rather than to LilyM’s story.

That it would be technically inaccurate too. We should call him the 2000 years old Jesus. But that would be inaccurate too because we would be missing the fact that at the same time we are at the feet of the Calvary and also at some other place 2000 years later. 🙂

Yeah, that’s why I chose 33. It’s the same salvific act and he was 33 and if it’s a devotional thing then we can actually peg down a time such as the Infant Jesus, etc. If it’s connected to the Eucharist then I think it has to be 33. Bahahaha! It’s fun conjecturing.😃

Alright, so who is going meatless today? I am. If not, what are you doing for penance instead?

I have wanted to try lox and bagels. So I did this morning with plain cream cheese. It tasted like a Philadelphia sushi roll on bread. 😛

For me, it’ll probably be a salad for lunch and I’m thinking sushi for dinner. Not sure yet. 👍

Me too, as usual. Even though I did my extra penance this morning by calling my son’s school re. his grades-which are awful…😦
(Actually he’s been a source of penance as far as schoolwork since kindergarten.;)) But a blessing in other ways.

Hey everyone!

Last Fridat I was in Nebraska for my niece’s graduation. Unfortunately for me we went to my niece’s job for dinner. It was very late as we got there late. We had driven 16 hours and there was not a meatless dish on the menu. I ate a hamburger. I know that I could have just ate fries, only I was starved. I felt very guily because I have never broken this rule before intentionally. I prayed to Jesus and told Him I was sorry. Now if I choose another day to give up meat for this one instance, is that acceptable?

I hope that it is. I got home yesterday and want to give up on Monday. I don’t eat meat on Wed. and Sat. according to the Sabattine Priviledge for the Brown Scapular. This is in addition to Fridays.

God Bless!

The obligation is to EITHER go without meat OR do some other penitential act - say some extra prayers or what have you (which, think about it, you actually did!). You don’t need to go without meat if you do something else.

Since the obligation is for Fridays, going without on another day doesn’t replace it. It’s like saying ‘can I skip Sunday Mass if I go to daily Mass another day during the week’. The obligation is for Sundays, so either you have a serious reason not to go and there’s no obligation, or you go.

You can’t replace it with another Mass during the week, although it’s good to go on a weekday if for any reason you don’t go on Sunday. For the same reason it’s good, but not required or a replacement, to go without meat on another day.

If you end up eating meat on a Friday for any reason, rather than praying for forgiviness (for you’ve actually done nothing wrong unless you also fail to do any other sort of penitential act), just be sure to do something else instead.

There is actually an exemption from Sunday obligation for serious reasons - travel which makes it incredibly difficult or impossible to get to Mass being one. This would also be an exemption for the Friday penance.
