My son came home from school the other day and told me that a classmate had said that the medals I put on is bookbag, jacket and and almost any zipper pull is improper.

I asked if the other child told him why it was improper and he said “because they are blessed”. Well, these are not blessed medals – at least as far as I know. I buy them from a re-wholesaler in batches of 50 each.

I usually sew a St. Michael/Guardian angel, a Scapular, Holy Family/Holy Spirit, or a Miraculous medal on the previous mentioned places. Is it a poor use of a sacramental to have it where we contact them at odd times during the day? I thought they would be what a sacramental was supposed to do and help us pray and to remember to pray more frequently.

Any (name removed by moderator)ut?

Even if they were blessed it would not matter unless they were being used unsacreligously. Say if you screwed or rivted them to your tires for traction.

Sounds like no problem to me - personally i wouldnt want to put any of my medals anywhere they were likely to get dirty but thats a personal preference as opposed to anything else.

Only other piece of advice is to get them blessed, always nice to be done. 🙂

Good idea btw

I’d have them blessed and keep right on using them.
I probably would not place too much credence on what a kid in your son’s class tells him. How old are these kids?

I think about the wild things my kids tell me and I have to smile. God bless their little souls. But I think they need reminders of religion and prayer - as we all do.
You are doing a great job Mamamull.

Some people get pietistic to a level that anything which seems more common or banal usage to them becomes scandalous, if for no other reason than that they are not used to it and have put these things on such a high level that they have practically removed them from the ordinariness of life. That sounds like what is happenning in this case of criticism.
