Media Conventions - a warning to parents

They are all sorts of media conventions happening across the country. They may focus on one primary theme, but all have various books, magazines, CDs, comics, toys, jewelry and replica weapons, etc. for sale. These conventions focus on pop/geek culture merchandise and some have panel talks with actors, writers, artists and others that are related to what the convention is about and what most of the dealers are selling. And that was that.

Not anymore.

Political activists are spreading their worldview now at these conventions. So, instead of just promoting and celebrating the media in question, we now have panels with titles like:

“Your kink may not be my kink but whatever it is it’s cool.”

“Ask an Asexual”

“World History of Homosexuality”

“Lesbian Sex 101 (18+)”

“Polyamory 101”

“BDSM for Beginners (18+)”

“Gay Sex 101 - Part 1 (18+)”

So parents, and everyone, find out where your young adults are going and doing, and be aware of what to expect yourself. This is exploiting people, pure and simple. Exposing them to things that have nothing to do with Popular Media.

Does this include Comic-Con? Hollywood tends to promote a sexual agenda to the masses. This is even true with studios that you think are family friendly like Disney. Disney is hardly family friendly these days. Just watch Once Upon a Time. They are a staple at Comic-Con.

This is getting to be a very popular sentiment just about everywhere and in regards to anything and everything!

GLAAD published a list of all LGBT related panels from 2015. Among them:

"Queer Representation in All-Ages and Youth Media
“Many people have often dismissed queer content as adult content, inappropriate for kids.”

"LGBTQ Geek Year in Review
“Media diversity is in the news now more than ever. The past year has been filled with key moments in comics, TV, movies, and animation that every queer geek should know about.”

That’s just two. Others included other media but there were no “let’s talk about sex only” panels mentioned. I don’t know about this year.

Quote from Prince dated 2001: "Prince told us last month that Mayte “does her thing and I do mine. And sometimes we do our thing together.”

So, it’s an old “radical individualist” idea. We need communities, not a thousand people going off in a thousand different directions. That’s fragmentation which can only lead to isolation, or tribalism. The latter we have too much of now. People “think” they’re thinking for themselves but various tribes are telling them what to do.

I can promise you that people were doing their own “thing” long before the 1960s.
 
And here we are reminded of what Our Lady said that many children are losing their innocence. As parents, it’s our responsibility to guide them to the right path.

👍 True, and that’s a responsibility that keeps growing these days, as the rest of the “culture” is quite inimical to children’s best interests or their parents’ beliefs.

They haven’t published their panels yet that I can find. I’ve been the last few years and don’t remember panels specific to identity politics/issues. But then, I wasn’t looking for any either.
 
I’d have thought that some of provocative cosplays would have been enough to keep away the wee little ones.

Also, I’d wager “Ask an Asexual” would be a really boring panel. Short, too.

“So you don’t have the desire to have partnered sex with anyone?” “No.” “…really?” “Yep.” “I see…” “Alright, panel’s over folks. If you excuse me, I think I saw Alan Moore. That, or a guy with an epic beard. Either way, he looks like the sort of guy I’d love to have a beer with. Later.”

There appear to have been only a handful of panels at San Diego Comic-Con this year dealing specifically with gay issues or issues revolving around sex. I counted 5 total out of the hundreds of panels the convention hosts over 4 days.
