Is marijuana still regarded as a gateway drug to heroin and cocaine? I thought that was disproved. Why not try (again) to outlaw alcohol as well as nicotine? Both have probably done more harm to the self and others than marijuana.
Yes, I think that people for get that that family of plants has always had excellent medicinal and industrial uses, form cancer specific things to fuel, clothing, and building materials.Like alcohol, it was demonized to give the fuel, fabric, and forest industry a leg to stand on against the benefits of hemp.

It’s all about money.

Some forums, for instance, will accept money for making their search bar look like a cigarette, thus causing subliminal suggestion.

Ed,

I guess I’m just not seeing how " if marijuana is legalized, not everyone will pay taxes on it" is a logical argument for keeping it illegal. Am i missing something?

Everyone gets one vote. You know where my vote is going. And you also know that people who want or need marijuana will get it however they want. You don’t think the Mafia hasn’t figured this out? That due to the tax, they’ll just price their street product a little lower and they’ll also be able to offer their customers all those other fun drugs I mentioned. They’ll also buy stock in whatever company supplies the legal stuff.

And you think it’s the government’s job to get into the marijuana business? After all, they, not us, will collect the tax and use it, minus licensing, processing and administrative fees, and hiring “compliance” personnel who will visit the various dope houses to make sure that they can see the owners’ books to make sure they’re getting their full cut, or maybe finding out the owner is also selling a few illegal goodies on the side.

Peace,
Ed
You might wish to note places where all drugs have been legalized.(I think the interviews I heard were from Spain?) Some usage went up, some down, none substantially. But what was significant was that the collateral damage plummeted to near zero. That in itself is a huge advance, yes? Do you have any idea what a phenomenal income private prisons get for promoting anti drug laws, and what a total bust and astonishing waste the drug “war” is? All in the name of protecting oil, cotton, and forest interests.

Ed,

Your survey shows mental imparement in people who started smoking at 13. Has anyone in here recommended that marijuana be legal for minors? If not then that survey is irrelevant.

It is a known fact that alcohol and drugs can do harm to a growing body, but almost all studies show that moderate use in adults is practically harmless.

So far you have said that if marijuana is legalized, not everyone will pay taxes on it, and that if people who are too young to buy marijuana legally buy it illegally (like they already can) it will hurt them.

Again, I don’t really see how you have formed any sort of argument as to why it should be illegal. Am I missing something?

Maybe legalizing it might actually lessen demand for it as the guilt factor will be greatly diminished which is some of it’s appeal in the the first place. You’re right about prescription meds, I respond to medical emergencies at work all the time for prescription narcotics but never heard of a 911 call for someone being stoned!!
🙂

You haven’t gotten this call because it is impossible to overdose on Marijuana. Your body can’t physically smoke enough to get enough THC to kill you. The same goes for LSD, oddly enough, although with LSD if you talk too much you are likely to hallucinate that you can fly and jump off a bridge.

Legalizing marijuana will lessen the demand by people who do it just for the thrill, it will lessen its potential as a gateway drug since there will be the huge issue of “legality” separating it from everything else, and it will be MUCH harder for minors to get ahold of, since drug dealers do not have a very good reputation of asking for ID! 🙂

Ed,

I would love to hear your opinion on this survey implying that marijuana is less addictive than caffeine. I’m sure I can guess, though, you will probably claim it is untrustworthy, mainly because it does not agree with your preformed opinion on the matter.
