I was prescribed some hydrocodeine for my tendonitis/carpal tunnel. It sure does give quite a nice relaxing feeling when I take a couple.

Is this any different, morally, from enjoying the feeling a glass of wine would give someone?

I don’t think it’s the same thing. You’re not taking the medication to get a high or anything like that. You’re taking it because it was prescribed to you by a doctor to manage the pain you’re in. It might help you to relax, but that’s a side effect. Plus, helping you relax probably helps your body recooperate faster.

I agree, you do not have to feel guilty about the effects of a prescription. Although if you know those effects we need to be responsible and not drive or use machinery, just like the labels say.

You gave an example of a glass of wine making you relax. Partaking of one glass of wine is not a sin, Jesus turned water into wine. It is when we overdo and start feeling out of control and drunk is when we cross the border into sin.

Interesting question… I never drank but I look for the motivation…I live with pain from falling off the back of a railcar…I’ve been offered many scripts but find more herbal/natural alternatives…Alcohol and medicine are both addictive…Wisdom is needed when using…Are we
doing this to medicate for an injury, medicate from stress, are we doing it for the buzz? We know where drunkenness gets us. God knows the heart and the Holy Spirit is able to convict accordingly if we remain close to Him…
