“Hear me and understand well, my son the least, that nothing should frighten or grieve you. Let not your heart be disturbed. Do not fear that sickness, nor any other sickness or anguish. Am I not here, who is your Mother? Are you not under my protection? Am I not your health? Are you not happily within my fold? What else do you wish? Do not grieve nor be disturbed by anything.”

Our Lady of Guadalupe

“What’s this world coming to?” This worrisome question is not a new one. We can feel as if this were the worst of all possible eras in history. But did you know that there was a time—in the Western Hemisphere, at least—when one in five children were being savagely killed as sacrificial offerings to pagan gods? The time was the 1500s, and the place was Mexico. It was the time of Spanish colonization of the New World, and missionaries were making little headway in bringing the hope of the gospel to dispel the superstitions of the native Aztecs. How would it end?
Miraculously, that’s how. In 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared to a poor Indian farmer, Juan Diego, and caused an image of herself to be imprinted on his tilma***[my note:

I will not be around much tomorrow, well I dont think so - it is always difficult to tell. And from now and until Christmas and after for a while I will be out quite a bit. Hence there may be days the daily meditation I have been posting lately may not appear. If you would like to keep up the daily meditation, you can access the appropriate links on the Daily Liturgy Prayers and Readings thread as I will make every effort possible to keep that going daily:

I may be slow at responding to any Posts I that ask a reply from me too, but will eventually catch up.

Studying Juan Diego’s Tilma

Reading the above "Studying Juan Diego’s Tilma makes interesting reading as does the whole article indeed. The Catholic Culture entry on the same subject does differ. Other posters may be able to update with accurate information.

“The tilma of Juan Diego has been the subject of much modern research. The tilma, woven out of coarse cactus fiber, should have disintegrated after 20 years, but although over 500 years have passed the tilma is still in perfect condition. The pupils of Mary in the picture reflect the Indians and clergy present at the time of the first revelation of the image. No paint was used, and chemical analysis has not been able to identify the color imprint. Additionally, studies have revealed that the stars on Mary’s mantle match exactly what a Mexican would have seen in the sky in December of 1531.”

What a timely and comforting message for all of us. It is just what I needed to hear. I am indeed under my Mother’s protection. And she leads me to my savior Jesus Christ. Ishii
