What’s wrong with kneeling and praying like Jesus in Gesthemane ?

It is good to know that there is a subtle but important difference in meditating. (emptying the mind), and being in loving quiet adoration of our Lord.

A holy priest at a retreat said to us “Do not go anywhere alone”.

Buddhism is not, repeat not, a religion, but just a system of oriental philosophy that is secular and even somewhat agnostic but it certainly allows for belief in any religion that a student might wish to follow.
Buddhism is a religion. It developed in polytheist eastern India in the 5th century BC as a way to end samsara (the cycle of reincarnation) by achieving moksha, the state of enlightenment where a person realizes they do not have an immortal soul. A Buddhist attains the enlightenment that they do not have an immortal soul through the meditative technique OP described.

Nothing could be more anti-Catholic.

Buddhists believe in 31 levels of heaven and hell, full of gods and demi-gods.

Clearing the mind of distracting thoughts so that God can enter and emptying the mind of everything are two different things. The former is one of the main ends of Christian meditation, the latter can lead to the unintended entrance into the mind of influences a Christian would rather not entertain. This is is fine but important point which differentiates “good” and “bad” centering prayer and some other forms of meditation. Meditation should always prepare oneself to hear what God has to say, maybe even to prepare oneself for the experience of contemplation if God deems to grace the pray-er with such a gift.

Be at peace.
