How does the church view people who claim to be Psychics or Mediums? Can anyone really talk to the dead?
Any information or suggested reading would be appreciated.

As far as I know involvement in occult practices, including seances is a mortal sin against the First Commandment.

From the catechism:

2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and **recourse to mediums ** all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone

I always think you’re messing with something you do not understand. If we were meant to know that stuff we’d know! I think it’s just asking for trouble!!!

This is what I was taught:

The devil is like a mad rabid dog tied up to a tree.
Messing around with that kind of stuff is like walking up to the dog and putting yourself in his reach.
Even if its out of curiosity, you will still get bitten.
