I know full well that we are not supposed to use mediums and fortune tellers. And I do believe the Church has good reason to caution us against this, as it can open doors to a darker reality and can be dangerous. However, I do believe that not all mediums have ill intentions, and I do believe in ESP.
I have no choice but to believe in them as I saw my paternal grandmother predict many things right down to the last detail of what color people would be wearing, what day an event would occur, who would be sick, injured or if someone would die and how. I also have had dreams come true, or done such things a writing down dates while day dreaming that ended up correlating to natural disasters and plane crashes. My sister has these kinds of dreams as well.
My grandmother, father, sister nor I have ever used these events to gain attention, but merely as a way or means to help each other, other family or to prepare for possible trouble. I don’t think this is evil or a sign that we are in touch with the devil. I think that is too easy and very much a false accusation when made.
People have to be careful about any of the gifts they receive from God, and if one is able to tell the future through dreams, or sense things via some extra-ordinary means it should not be used to gain wealth or deceive others. Caution has to be the rule as well as a strong sense of self discipline.
Depends what you mean believe in them. You cannot approve of divination, since it’s occult. Mediums are instruments of satan whether they have ill intentions or not. That they have good intentions might make them more able to deceive people through their good intentions.
evil spirits and demons are known for lying though, what about cases where the medium can be proven in telling the truth about some reading they give to someone? If it was telling the truth, then I have trouble believing it came from an evil spirit, as they would not be helping mankind in anyway.
There is a medium online, whom I have visited her website and she is a bit like Edgar Caycee, people can submit questions and messages to her and she replies in time, and she does this for free, but does offer a more intimate service for only $10. where she will be with you on the phone and spend as much time as the person wants on a particular topic or question, but most of her services are done for free.
I have watched her topics and statements, she has been right about most of what shes claimed would happen, such as what Russia is doing currently, some other things going on the US, etc. so it appears she is correct much of the time…this does not sound like a demon or evil spirit to me…does it to you?
I think its also very important to keep in mind these mediums were given this ability by someone, the last time I checked Satan could not give a human any special abilities, nor can demons. Plus, not many people can call themselves mediums, only a few people out of 100s have this talent, most people do not.
If you have consulted a medium, you need to go to confession for this.
The Catechism says:
2115 God can reveal the future to his prophets or to other saints. Still, a sound Christian attitude consists in putting oneself confidently into the hands of Providence for whatever concerns the future, and giving up all unhealthy curiosity about it. Improvidence, however, can constitute a lack of responsibility.
2116
All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future.48 Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.
2138 Superstition is a departure from the worship that we give to the true God. It is manifested in idolatry, as well as in various forms of divination and magic.
Divination is superstition, which is a transgression against the first commandment.
St. Firmilian in a letter to St. Cyprian mentions a woman who, “was so moved by the impetus of the principal demons, that for a long time she made anxious and deceived the brotherhood, accomplishing certain wonderful and portentous things, and promised that she would cause the earth to be shaken. Not that the power of the demon was so great that he could prevail to shake the earth, or to disturb the elements; but that sometimes a wicked spirit, prescient, and perceiving that there will be an earthquake, pretends that he will do what he sees will happen.” (
