Medjugorje....quick question

If the catholic holy father does not believe in Medjugorje. Why do so many priests go to Medjugorje???

  1. Priests are human and can be deceived or are simply disobedient.
  2. How do you define, “so many”? How many? Which priests?
  3. Even if every priest and every bishop, save for the Pope, went and swore allegiance, if the Holy Father, speaking for the Church forbade it, I would not have anything to do with it.

I’ve never heard about the Pope disbelieving the things that happened in Medjugorje. I thought it was still an open case?
 
just look up youtube mass at medjugorje there is quit a few prists there. There mostly from group for local town etc. if its not really why do the go to it ???

You need to read the rule here on CAF about topics that have been banned. For your information, Medjugorje has neither approved nor disapproved by the Church, but it is not allowed to discuss further in this forum - if you are continuing to discuss, you might end up being banned.

And is there any reason why priests should NOT be at Mass, even if it’s being offered in Medjugorje?
 
I never understood why Medjugoje was a banned topic on a website with the word “answers” in the title. :cool:

Anyway in our parish here in Ireland every parish priest (erm about 7 or so) has gone to Medjugorje and serve mass there. Theres no issue with it. The parish priest cant go of course because he has to keep in line with policy. I have been there, its a very special place. If you wait for the churchs investigations to complete you will miss the oppertunity of Medjugorje. Of course God loves you anyway but it is a nice place to visit 😉

It is easy to understand.
  1. It has not been approved by the Church. It seems that the local bishops do not feel that it is authentic.
  2. No approved private revelation (more so for those that are not approved) require the assent of the faithful. A faithful Catholic is free to disbelieve them if they wish.

Three separate local Bishops Commissions have declared there is no evidence of any supernatural happenings in Medjugorie and went further to declare the alleged visionaries are fakes.
Some local priests who maintain it is genuine had their faculties suspended so cannot say Mass or hear confessions.
Normally that would be the end of things because in the normal process if it is not approved locally the case would not go to Rome for handling by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF). However because of the controversy it was referred to the CDF who have to investigate and make a final decision. We don’t know when that will be but just a few months ago their first public act was to suspend a priest who is at the centre of the alleged visions in Medjugorie. I see that as pointing to a final decision of disapproval because nothing done by the Church locally or in Rome has been positive in respect of Medjugorie.
By the way when Pope Benedict was still Cardinal Ratzinger he called Medjugorie a hoax.
