Medjugorje Rosary

A while ago, my grandmother gave me a rosary that was sad to be made from the dirt of the spot where the apparition of Medjugorje appeared, and said the beads would turn golden over time.

I’m a little afraid for my grandmother’s soul, because she follows some very strange spiritual groups: not just Medjugorje but the Marian Movement of Priests. By the grace of God I’vre been able to show her that a pamplet she once owned was not one of a true apparition, because there was no new messages out of Fatima, and she said that her suspecions had been correct and threw it away. I’ve also pointed out to her the lies in the MMP book,but I think she’s still a part of the group - or perhaps God has already answered my prayers in getting her away from the filth. If so, praise be to Him! If not, keep my gramdmother in your prayers, please. But this isn’t to say my grandmother is unwise - she is very pious and very wise. We all make mistakes.

At any rate, when I received the Medjugorje rosary, I asked her if it had been blessed by the apparition, because I knew only priests may bless sacramentals: no spirit in heaven has the power to bless sacramentals. She said that it had the mother’s blessing, and I assume that meant “yes, it’s been blessed by the apparition.” (I’ve also heard stories of people giving the visionaries their sacrmaentals so the apparition can bless them, and then the visionaries giving each person their sacramental back even though they’ve never met before, which I would take as a sign of hidden knowledge, which in turn is a sign of demonic possession). So, not to be uncharitable, I took the rosary home, but I disposed of it at once: putting it in a plastic bag and throwing it in the garbage.

My question is, did I do the right thing in throwing the rosary away? I have nowhere to bury it, though I would be frightened to bury it, not wanting anything demonic being on my property - though I should really stop fearing and put all my trust in God. But should I have thrown the rosary away, given it was a sacramental?
 
I would say there was no blessing, so no sacrilege. Normally burial or burning is good though. What does everyone else believe?
 
So are you implying that Medjugorje followers souls are in danger?
 
I can not say that Medjugorje is evidently false; however nobody is sure about Medjugorje if it is absolute fictitious. The church has leaving it in a state of undeclared, however I a fully aware bishop of Medjugorje has stated that no supper normal phantom are happing there. However i am unsure in what you should have done with the rosary…as it a symbol of prayer to our Blessed Mother gift to her people on earth
 
I too have something in my house from Medjugorje, that frankly I wanted to get rid of years ago. It is an absolutely beautiful statue but I’m not sure if it was blessed, the aunt that gave it to me has long since passed away. I’m going to ask my pastor after Mass today and I’ll get back to this.I understand that this is not a rosary, but I will ask him about that also.
 
I don’t think any heavenly beings are appearing there. Perhaps unheavenly ones are or fraud? I never believed it the irst time I read what our Lady was supposed to be saying there. It was not a translation problem either. It was not her speaking. Do you know that the seers make sacrilegious and blasphemous jokes in audience with the pilgrims. The pilgrims don’t know and laugh:confused: If it were true the seeers would have religious vocations as a result of this but many are now gone, and none have.
Sounds like fraud or worse, but the pilgrims won’t be in trouble if their ignorant.:o
 
I am returning this thread so that the OP may have the question answered: "…should I have thrown the rosary away, given it was a sacramental?"

Since this question is not about the messages of Medjugorje, let’s keep discussion limited to the OP’s question.

I spoke with my pastor aftr Mass on Sunday, he said that if you don’t know if something has been blessed please don’t throw it away, bury it in the ground.
 
the rosary is an inanimate object so it was not tainted in any way by the superstion of the person who gave it to you. If you don’t want to use it or give it away (without the backstory) the usual way to dispose of sacramentals is by burning or burying in the earth. we collect all our broken rosaries and fragments and send them back to a group that makes new rosaries from them.
 
Whether it was cursed, had nothing done to it, or blessed… a rosary is a sacramental…

One should treat them respectfully. To dispose of them, do not use the regular trash. .

I guess that burying, burning, or tossing them into a body of water would be appropriate after saying prayers rendering them up to God and acknowledging that their purpose is over.

I rather wish I had an official statement about how to go about it but that sounds about right.
 
i don’t believe in the reported events of Medjugorje, but given what the Rosary represents I could never have the courage to simply toss it aside into the garbage.

Ok! You did not know whether it was blessed or not. You could have brought it to a Priest and asked him to bless it. You didn’t have to use it but to toss it out? We only toss out rubbish. The Rosary is not rubbish.

And you grandmother gave it to you in an act of love. Boy, I even have difficulty tossing out the cards my grandmother gave me for my birthdays. God rest her gentle soul.

There again maybe I am sentimental. Love tends to do that to me. :o
