this is starting to get a little ridiculous. calling people numskulls for not praying the rosary? getting upset that people dont believe in private revelations?? this is wrong. the catholic church teaches that one does NOT need to pray the rosary. the catholic church teaches that one does NOT need to believe in PRIVATE revelations. the catholic church does NOT teach that mary absolutely appeared at any of these locations. the catholic church teaches that it is ok to believe it. and i do pray the rosary. but it is not required for my salvation. neither are PRIVATE revelations. if someone dissagrees with you and does not pray the rosary or believe in private revelations do not insult them. because that IS against church teachings. if praying the rosary or believing in apparations were required for our salvation THEN THE CHURCH WOULD TEACH THAT!!! this is what the church teaches: Mary is the greatest of saints. her intercession is most valuable. Mary is the mother of God. Mary never sinned. Mary was assumed into heaven. That, my friends, is what i do believe absolutely. calling people names is not what Mary wants, just because someone doesnt believe that she appeared at a certain location. i dont need to believe in Mary appearing at a certain town to believe in her intercessions and to confess frequently and to follow the true teachings of Christ.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Thanks for the slap upside the head ( for me too)👍

That is one of the problems with forums. Even when using smilies it is hard to pick up humor and sarcasm in the written word.

My advice is not to use it at all in heated discussions unless you end it with a line stating that it is a joke.

People who do not know any better may read an attempt at humor or sarcasm as fact which could then mislead them in what the Church actually Teaches.

Especially in this discussion as there are some out there who believe that Fatima is part of the Deposit of Faith and to not believe in it, to not read it, to tell others that it is not binding is borderline heresy.

Some even believe that Catholics must pray the rosary or that if a Catholic does not they are somehow less of a Catholic.

Believe it or not I agree with you. Fatima saved me, but I will not force it on anyone. The rosary is too, “my weapon” and I will sing it’s praises. But I will not force it on anybody. There are no “lesser Catholics” except those who try to justify their sinful ways when they know they are against God. I am a miserable sinner and I need these things more often than not. These posting definately do not show the meaning/feeling behind the post. I think I need to post less often or be less passionate about other postings. :o

If I’m being sarcastic on a forum, I do this:

[sarcasm] I looooveee coriander and cottage cheese!

Humility dose whatever God wills, including obedience to His Church. False humility dose whatever God wills, excluding obedience to His Church.

*There were two mystics within the same diocese. One stopped communicating with God when her bishop forbide it even though God had told her to keep communicating. The other continued to communicate wih God in spite of the bishop’s order because God told her to keep communicating. *

I was simply giving interesting sources of information for the poster. Not “bullying”.
Maybe you should get off your pious horse and stop bullying me.
Whoa…hey, sorry to offend. I’m not on any kind of high horse and wasn’t trying to bully you. 😦

Whoa, what happened?! You responded nicely in post #76, then in post #77 you responded to the same thing a second time, only this time you were angry? lol

Sorry for offending. I honestly don’t think I’m on any kind of high horse and wasn’t intending to accuse you-- personally-- of being a bully. :o

Ahh but that is an invalid handle with out the closing [/sarcasm].
That’s not a bad idea, actually. Delimit the sarcastic remarks. e.g.

[sarcasm] Crocs with baggy shorts and T-shirts with slogans are my favourite clothes.[/sarcasm]

[Then revert to normal voice:] Because the local Bishop has said nix to Medj., if it was the Blessed Virgin appearing, she would stop.

And now Bishop has officially condemned Medjugorje, which the Church has upheld.
The authority to rule on the authenticity of the visions has been taken out of the local Bishop’s hands by the Vatican. His opinions are to be taken as just that, his opinions, not as an authoritative judgement.

If you review the document linked to earlier in this thread concerning criteria and procedures the Church uses to discern and authenticate apparitions you will see that there is a mechanism for the Vatican to supercede the local Bishop’s authority in these matters.

b) It belongs to the Sacred Congregation to intervene of its own accord in serious cases, in particular when the event affects a broad portion of the Church; but the Ordinary will always be consulted, as well as the episcopal Conference, if the situation requires it.
  1. It belongs to the Sacred Congregation to discern and approve the way of acting of the Ordinary, or, if it proves to be necessary, to carry out a new examination of the facts distinct from that which the Ordinary carried out; this new examination of the facts will be done either by the Sacred Congregation itself, or by a commission especially established for this purpose.

Actually, no. If memory serves, people were forbidden from going to Lourdes and the local bishop looked very askance at Bernadette and the apparitions there. Didn’t stop the Blessed Virgin from appearing, though.

But I’m equally sure she wouldn’t look down on those faithful children of the Church who listened and stayed away, either.

If I remember correctly didn’t the Bishop or priest try to order Our Lady to stop appearing at Lourdes? Our Lady’s reply was something to the effect that he had the authority to order people not to come there, but he had no authority to order the Mother of God to stop appearing.

I could be wrong, but I’ve never heard of anything like this happening at Lourdes.

In any case, the Bishop does have authority in his diocese and he’s mostly trying to restrict the behavior of the seers/pilgrims, not the Blessed Mother herself. The BVM has *never *encouraged disobedience to our legitimate authorities in the Church.

Can you show direct support (quotes, etc.) that the Holy See has taken the authority to speak on the apparitions out of the bishop’s hands? I’ve seen this on the official Medj site and now repeated here, but I can’t find it on these pages you linked to.

Could anyone point to a source that substantiates this? It’d be interesting.

A bishop at any apparition would be rightly dubious to begin with, but in Medj. he’s formally declared against it.
