In 1917 one of the greatest miracles in the history of the Catholic Church occurred in Fatima, Portugal and was witnessed by over 70,000 people. Thousands of testimonials were submitted to the Catholic Church and after 13 years of investigation, the Church declared it worthy of belief. It is one of the greatest proofs showing that the Catholic Church is the one true church, and cannot be disputed. It has been approved by all Popes from 1917 to present.

Some don’t know that there is a book of testimonials available online. Here are a few excerpts along with a link to the book. A fascinating read!

Deposition from José Joaquim da Assunção who was 71 years old in 1960 and living in Montelo. At the moment of the miracle he was standing fairly close to the place of the apparitions where the fountain is now located. He was with several acquaintances:

“The sun began spinning as though in a sort of a box. All the people cried: ‘It comes down! It comes down!’ The colors of things seemed different.”
“How were you dressed, José?”
“I was not dressed in a special way. Just as usual. It was raining.”
“And were you dry afterward?”
“The sun began to come down and all were quickly dried.”

Dona Maria Teresa Charters, another prominent living witness, is from one of the most distinguished families of Leiria. She was 26 years of age and was in the Cova with several relatives.

“We distinctly saw the sun, without harm to the eyes. The sun came down, turning on itself, and throwing beams of several colors.”
“Were you afraid?”
“I thought we were all to die, but I was not afraid.”

Mrs. Guilhermina Lopes da Silva was living in Leiria, 16 miles from the place where the miracle occurred. Mrs. da Silva had seen the crowds passing through Leiria in great numbers. She wanted very much to join them going to Fatima to see whether the miracle predicted by the children would happen.

“But I could not go because my husband was an unbeliever. I was looking toward the mountain at noon when suddenly I saw a great red flash in the sky. I called two men who were working for us. They, of course, saw it, too. One of my relatives, Mr. Louis Lopes from Arrabalde de Santa Margarida, went to Fatima and told us afterward that although he had taken every precaution to avoid the rain (because he suffered from bronchitis) he was soaked through from his feet to his waist. But as the sun came down from the sky he noticed, to his astonishment, that he was completely dry. And my former neighbor, Dona Nazare Pinheiro, when she came back from Fatima that day, told me that when she had seen the sun coming down like a spinning wheel, she was so frightened that she fell to her knees reciting the Act of Contrition, believing it to be indeed the end of the world.”

I found this fascinating when I came across this, so I’m surprised there is no response from anyone. Should I take this to mean that there are many Catholics out there that no longer believe in the miracle at Fatima?

I missed this earlier Eddie.I loved going to the Blue Army gatherings with my family when I was younger ,having a procession ,Rosary and prayers .
And having Our Lady of Fatima statue going from house to house.
Thank you and God bless.

This is truly a wonderful miracle! However, don’t you find it amazing that nobody was taking picture of the sun? Also, if the sun really danced, people from other parts of the country would have seen it too but they didn’t. This is a mystery.

Back then cameras were not common. Also, the miracle was local, the sun spinned in that part of Portugal not everywhere. Why you ask? God’s ways are mysterious but to me it has to do with free will, the evidence cannot be overwhelming and cover the whole world.

Unless its a UFO flashing different colours and zig zag at different angled.

One of the things I found most amazing of all is the fact that it had been raining all day before the miracle started, the ground was flooded and muddy, and people were soaked to the bone. Testimonials were unanimous in stating that everyone’s clothing, including the ground, were completely dried during the few minutes of the miracle. This is obviously an impossibility without supernatural involvement.

I hear this said a lot and to me it makes absolutely no sense. Knowledge of something does not effect free will. Apparently Adam and Eve definitely knew God existed yet look what happened. You can know for certain God is real and not follow him. Why in the world would God want to try and hide when apparently salvation is so important? Makes literally zero sense.

As Dan mentioned, cameras were not common at that time, though there were cameras there because there are photos available online of the crowd. But if you look at most of the testimonials many of the people said they thought it was the end of the world and that they were going to die - not a time when people would be taking pictures.

Also if you read the testimonials, there are several that were from people miles away and still saw it. I think somewhere in the book the author gathered that it was seen over an area of about 200 square miles or something like that.

Thank you for the link! I believe the miracle at Fatima really happened. I have a special devotion to Saint Francisco Marto. If more people took Mother Mary’s advice and warnings there more seriously, the world would be a better place right now.

I’m not asking you to do research for me. You made a positive statement
It is one of the greatest proofs showing that the Catholic Church is the one true church, and cannot be disputed.
If you make the assertion it’s on you to back it up not me. And your right there is no peer reviewed study showing these miracles are true because there is no solid verifiable evidence showing that they are. All you are left with is religious claims made by people. These claims show up in almost all religions. Without testable and verifiable proofs then that’s all they are.

I’ve read John Haffert’s book, “Meet the Witnesses of the Miracle of the Sun.” It’s a must-read for every Catholic, and especially skeptics.

My suggestion to you is to first learn the distinction between intentionally preserved, accidentally preserved, and incorrupt bodies. They are three entirely different ways that bodies can be preserved. Incorrupt bodies are unique in that they are lifelike and flexible and have flowing blood, and often have a pleasant odor all WITHOUT embalming and being years and even centuries underground. They are even found in proximity of other bodies that have decayed.

Then once you know the distinction, I challenge you to go and try and find a non-Catholic incorrupt body. You will not find one!

The only non-Catholic source I have ever seen attempt to claim they have incorrupt saints is the Orthodox church, but Joan Carroll Cruz told me this is incorrect, and my research has shown no proof it either. Their bodies are dark, deformed, and non-flexible which are characteristics of the other two preservation methods.

Oh trust me I understand the difference.
I challenge you to go and try and find a non-Catholic incorrupt body. You will not find one!
I’m assuming you mean find a Catholic incorrupt that is incorrupt because God kept it incorrupt. I have never found a Catholic or other religions miracle incorrupt body because there is no evidence of them. There are incorrupt bodies sure. These things are always eithier tampered with or there is a natural cause. Again if these miracles are definitely real they should have no problem standing up to scientific scrutiny.

Can we get back to the miracles at Fatima after this hijack?

What’s most interesting of all is incorrupt bodies have been discovered in many different lands for the last 20 centuries. When it is researched who the person was, in every case the person was a devout Catholic. By devout I’m talking about someone who dedicated their life to following and imitating Christ. Obviously that’s what assures the supernatural component since the process of decay can’t choose who to devour, and who not to devour.

Feel free to ttry and find a non-Catholic incorrupt body, and if you do, post the photos in a new thread. Remember, if the body is not lifelike, is discolored, distorted, or rigid, it is not incorrupt.

Now back to the original thread… The miracle at Fatima…

I’ve always believed the miracle of Fatima really happened. Thank you for the link to the e-book.
