Eddie Long, pastor of a Georgia megachurch and no stranger to controversy, is learning the hard way that, as popular wisdom holds, it is indeed good to be king – but it may not be all it’s cracked up to be.
In a video that has gone viral, Long is named king by Ralph Messer, a self-described messianic rabbi from Colorado. As part of the ceremony, which has been roundly condemned, Long is wrapped in what is purported to be a 312-year-old Torah scroll. The video also shows him, while seated in a chair, being carried around the stage of his New Birth Missionary Baptist Church to the joy of an obviously enraptured congregation.
It gets worse:

As soon as I pick myself up off the floor and wipe away the tears streaming down my face from uncontrollable laughter, I will try to read the article in its entirety. The video was too much.

I too what to know, king of what? And by whose authority?

My wife choked on her coffee when she saw it on CNN.
Ralph Kramden: Listen to this! Get something in your head, Alice! I’m the king here! Remember that. This house is my castle! I’m the king! Remember that! King, king, king! You are nothing, a peasant! This is my house, my castle! I’m the king.
Alice Kramden: Big deal, King over nothin’!!

There is no such thing as a “messianic rabbi”. I generally try to avoid commenting on other people’s religion, but these drive me nuts. My family converted to Christianity and a co-worked said 'Oh they were completed" My less than correct response was “I have a gun, don’t say that again”. But I will pray for all involved.

What is scary is how enthusiastic the congregation was. Most people would have just sat there mouth agabe. That church is in dangerous Jim Jones territory IMHO.

Spot on. They are the things of nightmares to me.

Sort of on topic, I think, but what about non-Catholic churches who have “bishops”?

Who appointed them bishop? What kind of authority do they have? Who do they answer to?
For instance: Bishop T.D. Jakes

Something, so did everyone throw themselves on the ground in worship?😛 Hail King Eddie!!!

They would say we do this with the pope.
They might say that we ‘do’ many thing with the Pope, but I think that this is one thing they cannot accuse us of ‘doing’.

Wow. Just, wow. I tell you one thing folks, I doubt any Talmudic scholar would consider Mr. Messer ‘a self-described messianic rabbi from Colorado’ much of an authority on anything. And, also, for a ‘king’, that’s a pretty weak throne. I mean, red pleather?

On the upside though these fellows seem to have a snappy–if garish–tailor. I can’t quite describe it, but the infamous Mr. Blackwell (I think that’s the guy who called Madonna El Niño in heels) would have a few things to say about these guys.

:rotfl: That’s too funny. What a way to mock God’s chosen people

A few things:
1). Whoever told the guy doing all the talking that coat looked good on him needs to be smacked.
2). “There are 22 pair of chromosomes in the human body, man added the last one” I’d like to see the scientific evidence for that.
3). Am I the only person who was hoping they’d drop him as they were carrying that chair around?
4). Shouldn’t the band have been playing Hava Nagila as they were carrying him?
5). In the words of Metallica “Where’s your crown, King Nothing?”

After reading the posts on this thread I just had to open the video to see what was going on. Really sad to see what goes on and the number following that mess.

Well, the article says that they’re apostolic.

You know, every time I get on these forums…(which is becoming less and less) I invariably see an article started by the same person that started by this author that is a news article that presents some fringe part of the Protestant branch of Christianity in a negative light.

I find this to be extremely irritating.

It makes me wonder what the point of this is. Do you not think that in this day one can easily find similar news stories about the Catholic church.

But yet I do not see posts here of the nature "Father Fred Smith forced to leave Parish in Southern North Dakota for fondling boys.

This reinforces a stereotype I am getting that former Evangelicals turned Catholic get attitudes against where they come from.

I would never, never, never want to become Catholic if the end result is that I have a chip on my shoulder against my past.

(but yes this dude is weiiiird.)
