Mel and his passion

This might seem like an odd question, but after the events surrounding Mel Gibson’s life since The Passion came out, how do you feel in regards to his actions in the past year? I believe he is sincere in his repentance and in his faith, but what do you think?

I don’t know about his personal life, and certainly don’t rely on the dinosaur news to get anything right.

In regard to his profesional accomplishments, my feeling is what have you done for me lately? I didn’t see Apocalypto, and was hoping that he (or someone) would turn their sights to the lives of the Apostles after the Ascension. That is ripe material for a GREAT movie, but no one seems interested in making it.

I like your point about the news. 👍

I believe he said at one point he would like to make a movie about the Maccabees. I think that would be a pretty cool idea since very few people have an idea of what took place in that time period.

A movie about the apostles would be fantastic. Who would play Peter and John? Any ideas?

What business is it of mine (or anyone else) to discuss the state of his spiritual condition on a public forum? Would it be any more appropriate for me to ask everyone on here what we all think about the level of repentance of any given member on these boards? Or someone’s mother or sister perhaps?

I don’t see why or how this is relevant. He may be a public figure, but he is still entitled to not have the state of his soul discussed as if it were the latest hockey score.

If you feel he needs it, pray for him. Otherwise let him be, and don’t speculate about something you have absolutely no knowledge of.

I did not bring up the “state of his soul”, so save your anger. I was about to try and get at the fact that I truly believe Mel is a great guy, and a great Christian even if he has made his mistakes. I also wanted to further the idea, if you would have waited, that how do we as Christians help him and others get back up, and then in turn respond to those in society who condemn Christians when they stumble. Relax. I am not one to be pious. I just enjoy different discussion in the hopes that some people won’t condemn others. If you can take the time to back off you will see the direction I was trying to go.

Well - your opening post is all I have to go by. I can not read your mind. If you wish to state your intentions, then do so when you open a discussion. Otherwise this just looks like another gossip mag.

And yes - I do belive you asked specifically:

If your intentions are not to gossip, then I apologize, but I still recommend that you state your full intentions at the begining instead of waiting for things to “develop”. :rolleyes: That often does not happen and things can not go as planned - this thread a perfect example.

I believe it is, to be kind, bad manners to speculate on the state of someone’s soul or their degree of repentance.

And it is bad manners to fail to read and understand what someone has made clear that they were actually saying (i.e, I said nothing about the state of his soul and degree of repentance).

I have no opinion whatever (and no right to an opinion) about the private life of any individual for whom I do not have a personal responsibility (such as my minor child) and I make no judgement and have no right to make such judgement on the private life of any individual, celebrity or otherwise. Just because his actions are news fodder for journalists who would not know real news it if bit them, does not make it interesting, informative, or give me the right to know about it.

You still have not clarified your point. Instead of assuming that I did not understand your rather cryptic post, you presumed, incorrectly, that I am somehow bothered by what you wrote.

Rather than make such a huge logical leap, why don’t you answer the question and clarify what you wrote.

I’m not familiar with what MG is up to lately. What has he been doing in the last year or so that makes you ask this question? You have me very curious, because it sounds like he’s been up to something good. 🙂

The question was simple. Simple question=simple answer. Don’t try to make more of it than it is. Not everyone asks roundabout questions. It is what it is and it is no big deal:thumbsup:

No, Annie, we are not to speculate or judge the state of someone’s soul. However, it doesn’t mean that we can’t pray for them based on their actions.

Well, Kalt, let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of Mel Gibson. I admire his guts and his courage to make a movie expressing his personal faith in Christ. In the past year and a half he has experienced a couple problems. He was seen (there are pictures) of him getting drunk and being slightly crazy with lots of younger adults at a bar in L.A. When he left he was pulled over for a D.U.I. When the cop was giving him a sobriety test, he asked if the cop was Jewish (he was, I think), and he went on about how the Jews control things. Now, the press jumped all over this cause his father is a questioner of the Holocaust, and he has strong feelings about the Jews. The press immediately began comparing him to his father.

Well, Mel came out apologizing like crazy, and he was up front about his struggle with alcohol (something he has struggled with for years). He has since been to at least two A.A. meetings a week for the past year, and he has become close to some Jewish groups so that he can learn and grow as a result of his mistakes. I am in now way judging. The larger point that I was trying to get to was how do we as Christians respond to our brothers and sisters when they stumble. I was not condemning him in any way! If anything, I stand by him and the example he has set since the incidents (although I doubt that comment will mean anything to those who have obviously missed the point here, and who have a nice disdain for what I had to say). I want to see Mel continue speaking out and making movies. I think his is a great story of redemption. That is all I was trying to say.

Mel is human and a sinner just like the rest of us; so whats the problem with him? I will not judge him because it is not my job. i will leave that up to out lord.

As for his movie; it was just that a movie. None of us was their that day Our Lord was crucified and Mel’s “movie” was just one representations out of many.
