If you were God and you wanted to make a movie about the Passion of the Lord Jesus Christ, who would you choose?

To me, Mel Gibson is the obvious choice. He is Catholic, although maybe confused about his faith due to his father’s influence and for whom he had a tremendous amount of respect, he is a famous movie star/director with a tremendous amount of resources. He was able to persevere with the project in spite of all the satanic criticism that came his way. He has tenancity! Look at the results! The gospel was preached throughout the world with this movie. The passion of Christ was presented in a flawless display. I read that it was based on the stations of the cross. Because of all the controversy, people were even more curious. He is still facing criticism and controversy because of this movie. If the media can find fault with him they feel like Jesus is discredited also. This is why we need to pray for him. God chose him to make this movie. There were so many miracles during the filming process. The actor Jim Caviel’s intials are JC and he was 31 or was it 33? when he filmed this movie. Read some of his interviews.

I think we need to look through the eyes of faith and see the big picture. God moves in mysterious ways. He choses the people we would not to fulfill His purpose. Look at King David and all the sins he commited, yet the Lord said he is a man after my own heart.

God is not finished with us yet and he is still working on Mel as well. That is why he needs our prayers. All you have to do is think a prayer for him if you do not have time. Please! consider how we can provoke one another on, not put down. He is facing enough spiritual warfare.

God bless,
Kathy

I don’t feel it necessary to pray for every person with problems. I don’t really care too much about Mr Gibson, I’d rather spend my limited prayer time on others.
If you love those, who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.And if you do good to those who do good for you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinner do the same.And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies,and do good and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for He is kind to the ungrateful and evil.
Luke 6:27-35

Good words.

i saw jim caviezel speak at a church in my area. he is a very faithful catholic. i can see that he and mel gibson probably got along well during the making of the Passion.

he was speaking at a megachurch and he was promoting at the time an audio recording of the Bible. he, of course, was the part of Jesus.

while sitting in the megachurch, he said that Christ suffered and that church is not all rock music and fun things that make us feel good. i think he was really making a jab at the evangelical protestant megachurches that are so concerned about entertaining the congregation with rock music, themed sermons with big presentations, coffeshops, etc.
i don’t think most of the people sitting there got it. i attended the church a few times and the pastor wore a hip hairstyle and i just had an icky feeling when i left there. it definitely didn’t feel like church. but i was raised more along the lines of the Catholic faith anyway so i am not accustomed to that type of church. it seems to work for a lot of people.

anyhow, i think both of these men are very conservative in their Catholic belief.

i had heard that mel gibson had built a chapel there on his property. i had never thought of him as real religious and didn’t know he was catholic before that. i just knew he had a lot of kids. he had a long hollywood marriage anyway. i am sorry to hear that it is ending.

I think I saw a clip of that Larry King interview and he told Larry he doesn’t believe that the Pope is the real Pope or that the Masses offered by the (Pope following) Catholic Church (as opposed to his offshoot) are valid.

I feel I am obligated to pray for all our seperated brothers and sisters in Christ. Mel has a lot on his plate - alcoholism, problems with acceptance and obedience, infidelity - shoot, I want your prayers with my piddling little problems. The least I can do is pray for him, doncha think?

AMEN!

I’m not praying for the guy, I don’t like him much.
Who do you pray for?

Here is how we are instructed to pray:

Timothy 2

1I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

4Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

6Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.:getholy::gopray2:

Yes, I agree. I pray for all of our separated brothers and sisters but I do so in a blanket manner and do not name any names.

For when we use names that means that we are leaving people out. Mr Gibson is no more important or lost as any other misguided soul. I pray for them all.

Blanket prayers are fine. I think it’s ridiculous to specifically pray for celebrities.

Blanket prayers are good because there are so many people that can fall into a particular category such as seperated brethren. As far as celebrities go they may actually need more prayer than many for obvious reasons but I don`t feel they should get special intention treatment just because they are celebrities.

I think we ought to pray for Robyn, Mel’s wife that he’s dumping and who he’s cheated on for years. The woman that gave him seven children and who Mel himself has claimed doesn’t think she’ll go to heaven because she’s Anglican. Mel is a great actor, dynamite director, hilarious, bright. But he has worn his Catholicism on his sleeve in a big way and hasn’t walked the walk at all. He preaches Catholicism like mad but divorces a wife of 25 years and is dating a Russian chick? I thought he didn’t accept divorce? hmmmm

Not only do I not see him asking for prayers but he seems to be having a heck of a good time sinning! I agree with you 100%His wife and children especially need our prayers… Mel 's father made Mel the wound -up guy that you see.

Does it really matter if a person if famous or not? Shouldn’t we still Pray for them?

Of course we should. The Catholic Church teaches that we should pray for everyone. For God loves all His children.

Everyone has sinned at one time or another…simple as that. Who here has never sinned?

It doesn’t matter if it’s Mel Gibson or our neighbor we need to pray for everyone. Mel Gibson is Human. He needs our prayers. Yes, he’s made mistakes…we all have…just our mistakes don’t make the paper or the T.V. Our mistakes aren’t for the world to see…Yet God sees them. So we need to pray for everyone, Rich and Poor a like.

Truely there are Many Catholics out there who have “walked” in the same “Personal Problems” that Mel Gibson has had. Notice I said Personal Problems, it has nothing to do with his social satuis.

And if someone still thinks we don’t need to pray for Mel Gibson…how do we answer to God on why we wouldn’t? Because he’s Rich and Famous? Or because someone didn’t like Mel Gibson? If we are truely Christians…we are more than willing to pray for anyone we are aware needs our prayers.

Do we only pray for someone when they “Ask” for our prayers. Of course people who sin, seem to “think” they are having a good time. Satan has a way of making things/sin look good. All the more reason we need to pray for Mel Gibson, for Satan is blinding him right now. Who among us hasn’t been lead astray at one time in our life, (maybe not in our marriage, but in some other way.) by Satan?

I agree we need to pray for his Wife and Kids also. Might not be a bad idea to pray for Mel Gibsons Father as well.

Who are we (in general speaking of course) to be the first to throw the first stone? Maybe we should be throwing out the first prayers instead. Since when did we as Catholics decide who is and who isn’t “worth” praying for?

I have been praying the Rosary from the Catholic Prayer book by Father John A. Hardon, S.J. I love the Sorrowful Mysteries. Today as I was praying with meditations on the Crown of Thorns, I included Mel Gibson and his family with this decade.

This mediation explains why people like Mel Gibson need our prayers:

***The Crowning with Thorns…

This is the mystery whose contemplation is better suited to those who carry the burden of grave responsibility in the care of souls and in the direction of society. Is is therefore the mystery for governors, legislators and magistrates.

The crown which is placed upon their heads carries a halo of dignity and distinction. It is also a crown that weighs heavily and pierces with thorns and annoyances.

Wherever there is authority, the cross cannot be wanting. Sometimes it comes in the form of misunderstanding, contempt, indifferences or loneliness.

Another application brings to mind the grave responsibilities of those who have received the most talents and who are bound to make them bear fruit in the constant exercise of their faculties and intelligence. The service of the intellect, of being a light and a guide to others, which is the duty required of those who are more gifted, must be borne with patience, rejecting temptations of pride, of egotism and of dissension which destroys.

The prayer in this decade, then, is for the leaders of men who belong to the religious and civil orders and also for those who bear the responsibilities of the pen, of thoughts and of ARTISTIC EXPRESSION.

Christ is risen! Truly He is risen!
All Mel did was show up at the Eastern Catholic Bishops Conference and ask to speak to the hierarchs, and later took the hierarchs out for dinner. While it is certainly unusual I don’t understand all of the media hype. He apparently asked nothing of the hierarchs other than their prayers, which is completely reasonable and understandable for a man of his status enduring the difficulties he is presently.

I am pleased he at least turned to those successors of the Holy Apostles that he considered to be men of prayer to beg their prayers. Lord, have mercy on Your servant, Mel.
