I’m with you, friends. I’m an insulin dependent diabetic who could do without coffee and chocolate on that day. I’ll have the rest of my family join and we’ll pray our family Rosary that night with this special intention in mind. Thank you for your charitable response.
Blessings to you!
Good idea! I’ll commit to saying a rosary during my lunch break. 🙂

To my brother and servant, Michael,
Mel Gibson is a celebrity. He has been in the limelight for many years. He has been controversial in the past about his stand on the Catholic Church…all the while known for his happy marriage, his generosity of life in bringing seven children into the world, and for masterfully producing “The Passion of the Christ”. Outstanding acclaim, though enduring persecution from all sides…bravo…that said, his private life would be of no issue for me or for the tabloids-until he stepped out onto the red carpet recently with his girlfriend on his arm. I’m just saying that he doesn’t seem to be showing the remorse or shame that he should be in this instance. Rather he clearly went public with his sin. A public rebuke is appropriate here. Too many have been scandalized. Yes, if you and I go public with our sin, we, too leave a long trail of sin behind us. But we’re not celebrities throughout the world like he is-his behavior, publicly, brings many souls down with him. We can only receive the forgiveness we seek. Of course I pray for him to have a conversion, just as I pray for my nine children to choose heaven everyday. It’s okay to call each other to an account-even merciful. I do love Mel Gibson as a brother in Christ-or I wouldn’t care.
I have a feeling that the root problem with Mr. Gibson is his drinking. Addictions bring all kinds of havoc into ones life. It creates a downward spiral. Sometimes a person has to hit rock bottom before he can look up. I know that when I use to drink, I would do things that I was ashamed of and would never had done sober. I can not judge him because I know from where and what the Lord Jesus delivered me from.

Not only does he suffer from an addiction but he is also very wealthy and famous, which creates a whole lot of other temptations that most of us will never have to face. Someone told me that people who are really good looking carry a heavy cross because of all the flattering, flirting and opportunities/temptations that they are constantly confronted with. I had never thought of it like that before.

Not only that, but I think it is very hard for anyone to be a Christian in Hollywood. I don’t think he has ever presented himself as a saint, but as a weak individual who believes in Jesus Christ. He had enough of what the Lord needed to have this movie made. God gets the glory not Mel Gibson. He was a vessel and in his way tries to live his faith his way in a very crooked and perverse environment. Like I said before, he has endured horrific spiritual attacks that are enough to drive someone to drinking, especially if there is already a weakness there. He is on a journey also.

I believed in Jesus for most of my life, but I did not live for Him. I tried but it was too hard. I gave up until a very heart wrenching experience that involved my beautiful daughter happened. God got my attention, brought me to repentance and changed my life. My daughter suffered/ and I suffered knowing that my disobedience caused her suffering. I asked the Lord to take it from her and give it to me but what I heard was “you do not have to take it, I already took it on Calvary.” But I had to go through it. The Lord chastens those He loves. God has his ways which are higher than ours.

King David had an affair with a married woman, who got pregnant by him. In order to cover up this sin he had her husband put on the front lines hoping that he would die and he did. This child died but later they had Solomon and he lived. God said David was a man after his own heart. Man looks on the outward but God looks upon the heart.

Ok, enough of this subject for me.

I’m very moved by your post Kathy because I too know what addiction is. In my case it’s painkillers & I’m still going through it. But I know that Jesus & Our Lady are there even though I rail against them at times because I feel they aren’t listening to me. I know they can though & that makes me think there must be a higher purpose to all this because I know Jesus could heal me in an instant if He wanted to. I don’t understand why he hasn’t, I don’t know what the ending will be but I have hope & I know one day I will be healed. I am the biggest sinner I know, I don’t deserve to be healed after all I’ve done but I know it is coming. As the saying goes, what does not kill us makes us stronger. I feel like a hypocrite very often when I pray but thats when I should pray & pray for others too. The spiritual & psychological pain is the worst but it all has it’s purpose.

Thanks everyone for responding to the fast & prayer for Mel. God will answer us. ’ Where two or three are gathered in my name, There am I in the midst of them’
Come Lord Jesus!

Is there anyone on this thread who would be willing to offer a day of prayer & fasting for this situation? If we all could do it on the same day that would be great. It would be a powerful thing to do. Just a thought.

Fran
I would be interested in a day of prayer and fasting for all lost souls and all those drawn away from the Church but not for one individual.

Why do you have an objective for praying for one individual? Is this how you always pray?
Have you seen God answer prayer for one individual? How do you give thanks? Or testify of what He has done?

What efficacy your prayers have before the throne of God! What souls you are snatching from the clutches of darkness and depravity by your pain and suffering! What holiness of life for a soul to unite his cross with the Cross of our Savior!
When our most pure Mother collects our sacrifices and offerings, She dresses the souls of pour sinners with the graces they need for salvation! You are very dear to Her, as you join in this salvific work of Her Son. You** will** be healed, dear child of God! Through your faith-you will be healed.

I’m sure, our good Brother in the Holy Brown Habit of Our Lady of Mt.Carmel knows well how to pray-far better than us! His whole life of dedication, is a prayer of** total immolation** on behalf of every individual-and the whole world. My humble prayers of thanksgiving I offer for you, dear Brother, for your holy vocation. God bless you, and Our Lady preserve you!

I tried to ask a question if Mel Gibson has been rejected by the Opus Dei. Maybe I thought wrong. He probably never belonged to the Opus Dei.

He obviously can’t get an annulment from the Vatican, so is he just trying to get into the good graces of the Eastern Catholic Churches hoping he can get a package deal (divorce/annulment and all the sacraments for his new family)?

He can’t. They’ll go through the exact same annulment process that Romans would.

He’s dealing with churches in union with Rome. They have the same system of marriage tribunals as the Roman church.

I don’t usually buy into speculation on public figure’s religiosity, for the simple reason it often has a public relations aspect. Politicians in particular often pay lip service to Christianity, but only when it suits them.

On the other hand they’re under pressures most of us know nothing about.

As someone who has a weakness in carnal mindedness, partly protected by not being much in demand and a partial hearing loss which makes socialising difficult, I am somewhat averse to gloating over public figures’ sexual scandals. I haven’t got much time for bimbos either, since they often set the men up for their own ends.

In the case of Mel Gibson however, I see him going one of two ways - he’ll either repent and turn back to the church, or he’ll church surf at the start and then drift away as he finds he can’t get what he wants. It’s up to him. We can speculate to our hearts content, but in the end he’ll make his own decision.

Personally I think Hollywood would be one of the most difficult environments in the world to maintain a consistent Christian witness. Most of us, in that same environment, would quite possibly also fail.

Aramis, thanks for reminding me. I keep forgetting (due to old age & lack of mental stimulation) that we all come from the same tree with different branches.

WELL! You know, when you consider the work he did in making the movie on Christ, he really had to be under horrible attack by the ‘darkness’ of this world. How could one possibly have made a movie like that and not love our Lord Jesus. We are all sinners and all fall short of the glory to God. May his life come in order and in agreement with the Word of God and his Church.

This was on yahoo

It’s official: Mel Gibson’s girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, is pregnant.

The actor confirmed the news during a taping of NBC’s The Tonight Show With Jay Leno to air tonight.

“I guess Im ‘Octo-Mel,’” says Gibson, who already has seven kids with his wife of 28 years, Robyn.

Robyn filed for divorce six weeks ago amidst speculation that Grigorieva, a singer on Gibson’s record label, was expecting a child.

“My wife and I, our marriage ended three years ago and weve been separated ever since then,” Gibson tells Leno. "These things happen. It’s unfortunate, it’s sad, but you know she is an admirable woman – we still got kids together, we’re friends.

“Look,” Gibson continues. “When it’s all said and done, I did a pretty good hatchet job on my marriage myself. I’m to blame. If you’re inclined to judge, put it here.”

Gibson also says his separation from Robyn had nothing to do with Grigorieva, whom he didn’t meet until 2008.

When asked by Leno if they would wed, Gibson says: “Why would you get married twice?”

It is also important to note that if Mel was planning on “jumping jurisdictions” that is to change his ritual church he would not only need the approval of the bishop accepting him but he would also need the approval of his Latin bishop to leave.

Just a note to remind everyone that tomorrow, Wednesday 27th, is the day set for prayers , fasting for Mel. Of course we should keep him in our prayers anyway but if we prayed in unison about this intention tomorrow it would be very powerful. ( Say a prayer of protection for ourselves too). 👍
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for Us!

Again, why just Mel?

Why not all who have fallen? Mel deserves prayers no more than any other person who is struggling in their spiritual life. It is only his celebrity status that makes his struggles known to us.

And why not? I mean really. You’re insistence on us not praying specifically for him is rather disconcerting. Do you have objections to specific prayers said during prayer intentions?

We all have specific prayer intentions for specific people. We have the individual people in our lives we have prayer intentions for, as well as others. Why NOT pray for him specifically? It is not just because he is a celebrity. I happen to LIKE Mel Gibson. He may not be a personal friend. But I pray for personal friends, why not make a special prayer intention for someone who is NOT a personal friend or family member?

IMO, that’s getting out of yourself a lot more than simply praying generically for everyone or those you like.

If you don’t want to pray for Mel Gibson, fine, don’t. However, please stop coming in here and trying to discourage others from doing so. Do you go into the “Prayer Intention” and “Family Life” forums where women have posted asking for prayers for their husbands who have strayed and telling them, “Why are you praying for one man only? Why not pray for all who have fallen?” If you did that that would be extremely rude and inconsiderate.

It’s the same situation here. You don’t know if we’re not already praying for all who have fallen. And there is nothing wrong with taking one day out of our lives for one specific person. We get that you don’t like Mel Gibson, but that doesn’t mean we have to pray for whom you dictate. I suspect it is BECAUSE of his celebrity status that you have an aversion for him already.

Leave us to pray for who we want to pray, and you can pray for whom you want to pray.

I’m ready to go! I’ll be doing the bread and water thing. I came back here to check in and confirm and you beat me to the punch, so I’m responding that I’m still participating. 👍

The woman, Oksana Griegorieva with whom he is having the child is not innocent in this either. She has another child by Timothy Dalton to whom she was apparently not married And now she has commited adultery with a married man with a wife and seven children.
Mr Gibson could have had a place of respect as a husband and father. He has thrown it all away with drinking immoderately and becoming involved with other women than his wife.
May God forgive them both…

Now he is just another Hollywood star I will no longer pay money to go see at movies.

Bob Crowley and Pani Rose, I totally agree with your comments

Mel Gibson’s been under the media radar since Mad Max. I honestly discovered that he was a Catholic when Time Magazine made a write up on Brave Heart. Thanks Pani Rose for the info on Jay Leno’s talk show. Taking it at face value, I assume that Mel has humbled himself.

Who wants to make a bet that he’s going back to his family! Loser reads the 150 Psalms in a day.

After your response to our good Carmelite Brother,*** I’ve decided to pray just for YOU*** :)…and you can pray for Mel Gibson. (or “Octo-Mel”, as he called himself before millions of viewers on the Leno show)

I hope our prayers will bring about greater respect for** those in the consecrated life** and those who are faithful to the ** sacrament of marriage.**

PAX CHRISTI
