Mel Gibson Planning 'Passion of the Christ' Sequel (Exclusive

Mel Gibson and writer Randall Wallace are working on a sequel to The Passion of the Christ that will tell the story of the resurrection of Jesus, Wallace tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Wallace, nominated for an Academy Award for scripting Gibson’s 1995 best picture Oscar winner Braveheart, on Thursday (reluctantly) confirmed rumors that he has begun to write a script for a story about the resurrection, telling THR that the project is becoming too difficult to keep under wraps.

I loved The Passion and I still love Gibson. However this seems odd. There are so many logistical nightmares here. Casting, sequel letdown, a story that doesn’t have as much intrigue. (Sorry Jesus but Hollywood might not bite at the idea of a guy eating fish on a beach with his pals who thought he was dead.)

HOWEVER. Gibson did such a good job and was so Catholic centered it would be kinda cool to see the Pentecost and the setup of the church. Could even end the movie with Peter upside down in Rome.

Just got chills picturing an upside down cross with Peter on it as the fade out scene…

Mel, buddy, if you need me to consult… I have a fee…
 
I am still waiting for that film about the Maccabean revolt dude was supposed to make
 
Id like to see Gibson or someone do a film on the second coming, and all that is supposed to happen, I know it would be CG heavy, but imo it would be a HUGE blockbuster.
 
The Passion is my favorite movie about the death of Christ but what are they going to do for a sequel? Are they going to bring back the same actors?

Yeah. I wonder if Gibson’s new movie will be so long as to include the death of each apostle or something. Then years later he might start the movie of revelation or apocalypse.

Risen was ok but there were defects in regards to the scriptures and some of the artistic license decisions were puzzeling. I thought Gibson’s artistic choices in the passion were intriguing and meaningful.

Besides the film on the Maccabees he was allegedly doing, he was also considering a movie on Fatima. I wish he’d do it. The recent film on Fatima, The 13th Day, was kind of lousy in my opinion. The 1950’s “Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima” was better.

There was already the movie Risen that came out this year which told the story of the Resurrection, the Pentecost and the Ascension. It was pretty good, but maybe Mel thinks he can do better?

I did not like risen.

I’m sure he could do better. But I think there are potentially Better movies to be made.

What does CG stand for?
 
I think even trying to depict the Resurrection in film is a mistake. Actually, Gibson already depicted it at the end of “Passion” as a naked Jim Caviezel getting up and walking out of the tomb. Remember, the Resurrected Christ was not even recognizable to Martha or the disciples walking from Emmaus until He chose to reveal Himself. It isn’t just a matter of an ordinary human body after the Resurrection; the risen Christ had a “spiritual body”, the same type that we hope to have at the Judgment. The resurrected Christ could go through walls, and appear and disappear instantly. Any attempt to depict that would just cheapen it. Why this need to make a film of everything?
