It will not be easy for you to find a suitable operating system on an ideological basis. I use Ubuntu because I have always used Unix. Ubuntu is an African philosophy, rather new and humanist in origin.

Apple would be avoided on ideological grounds as well. Android is Google’s - avoid. Rule these out and there isn’t much left!

What’s wrong with Apple and Google? Neither of them supports or promotes abortion or eugenics as far as I know. I think Apple (and probably Google) might support gay marriage though.

Google is extremely snoopy, and on Easter Sunday of this year, they instead honored a deceased labor activist named Cesar Chavez.

Seriously considering switching computer OS’s when my Windows 7 becomes obsolete - perhaps sooner. :compcoff:
That’s an interesting reaction. Though I am not sure it will have the intended effect. Bill no longer has the level of involvement that he use to at Microsoft.

Google was one of the sponsors of a Pride party that my employer was throwing for Pride Week in San Francisco (the same week the Supreme Court released their DOMA ruling). Apple was one of the companies that sponsored advertisements to support Gay marriage in San Francisco.

But both companies seem to be pretty anti-Microsoft.
Why with all the money she and Bill have can’t they see they could help people be happy while still having families, instead of promoting this sick agenda?
According to the last interview that I saw with Melinda gates (6/27/2012) the answer to that would be “no.” From what she expressed it would seem her thoughts are quite opposite. It was on “The Colbert Report” (so decide for yourself how much weight to give it).

He probably still makes a ton of money from Microsoft though, and some of that money likely goes to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. And even without Bill Gates, Microsoft donates to Planned Parenthood.

I probably shouldn’t have tossed that in about my OS, so fugeddabout that for now.

The Colbert interview was cited in the Catholic World Report piece and it only proves my point which is - and I apologize if I distracted from it and didn’t make it really clear; I shall now do so:

I am sick and tired of rich people from the first world, and particularly those who want to call themselves Catholics, to blatantly go against Church teaching in this way. It doesn’t matter one whit that they say this is what the third-world people say they want.

Sure, anyone wants a better future for their children. That is commendable. But the first-world pro-contraceptive, pro-abortion “do-gooders” long ago went in and sold the third-world poor a bill of goods saying that contraception and abortion access were essential to accomplishing those goals. They are not. There has been success in teaching NFP to those who need to space their children and it was well-received but the Planned Barrenhood propaganda has thumbed its nose at it and worked to convince people that they have a better way.

I would like to see Mrs. Gates’ Bishop formally discipline her in some way. Although these days we know that many people who think the way she does are emboldened by censure and treat it as a joke and a publicity opportunity. I guess we just have to pray for God’s will to be done and for God to touch her heart. 😦

I am curious as to how much he get’s paid or how much he has from stocks in Microsoft.

Well if you want to boycott Microsoft that’s fine. You’ll want to do some research to maximize it’s effectiveness. The Gates and Melinda Foundation gets donations from several companies and individuals that own several companies (ex: Warren Buffett).

Big companies usually are pulling money from a lot of places. In the case of Microsoft they make money off of more than the Microsoft, Xbox, and Office brands but off of other companies that are licensing Microsoft technologies and patents. This includes vehicles that are under the Ford, Fiat, Nissan, Kia, and Honda umbrellas that contain certain technologies, a number of TV/media providers around the world that make use of some of their technologies for delivering content (ex: AT&T, Deutsche Telekom and TELUS among many others), licensing fees from certain Android phones, licensing fees in products that include Microsoft technologies and Windows Embedded (Remote Controls, Microwave ovens, POS terminals).

In my college days I decided to try to go anti-Microsoft but it just wasn’t working for me; they are pretty wide reaching. Some of the difficulties I ran into while trying to do this may be less applicable now days, so you may have different success.

Sure thing.

Welcome to manifest destiny.

So I guess I wasn’t the only one that noticed that.😦
a few news stations and news blogs had commented on it too. But with Google being such a multicultural place (people of many religions or non-religion) I don’t think it means much that they did not highlight a specific holiday that year. I haven’t noticed them highlighting iconography of modern religions, but they do highlight icons loosely associated with the holiday. Like snow men for Christmas or Easter eggs for Easter.

Can we get back on topic - Melinda Gates? Thanks. 🙂 Again, I should’ve not mentioned computers; I created my own distraction at the start of the thread, which I now regret . . .my bad.
