*Thought I’d begin a thread, where we can share snippits of some of our most memorable homilies…can be from EWTN, can be from your own parishes. Whatever you like.
Today, at mass, our priest gave a really timely and poignant homily. A memorable statement that I took from it…"We [Catholics] are a quiet people, we need to stand up for our faith and defend it.’’ He was speaking of course, how we [Catholics] are being marginalized in our society, today, and how we need to not sit silent, and expect others to stand up for the faith-WE NEED TO. He said, this doesn’t need to be done with ‘harsh rebuttals and sentiment but with gentle instruction, the way Christ would have us do.’
What I LOVE about our new parish, is that the priests here speak their minds…they don’t provide a candy coated homily, sometimes, their words can make some of us squirm in our seats a bit. It’s a good thing! I agree, that sometimes we are sitting idly by–while prayer is good he said, and quite effective…we must “use our own lives for change.”
He used the example of Maximillian Kolbe, the martyr who gave his life in place of a Jew, during the holocaust. Our priest said, we are not always called in this way, but we are called to give our LIVES to following Christ…
