I am hoping he becomes a canonized saint in my lifetime. What wonderful and inspirational man.

I pray regularly for his cause and that of Father Kapaun.

All five chaplains who got the Congressional Medal of Honor after the Civil War were Catholic priests. Also, the first American chaplain killed on the battlefield was a Catholic priest who was giving last rites to men on the Confederate side and is said to have posthumously received the Southern Cross of Honor.

We can be quite proud of our Catholic chaplains!

Here’s some information about several of our Franciscan Friars of the St. Barbara Province who were chaplains during World War II, in particular, Fr. Albert Braun, O.F.M., who survived three years as a prisoner of war, and Fr. Fidelis Wieland, O.F.M., who suffered fatal burns while helping the wounded aboard the USS Comfort, which had been hit in a kamikaze attack.

I asked Jesus to use my regular Monday fast on Memorial Day for the soul of a Catholic chaplain who died serving (He can pick one).
I didn’t realize there were so many for Him to pick from, I thought “maybe there are just a few and they are already in heaven”, because we mostly hear about the Medal of Honor winners and two of them are up for sainthood already.
Pretty sure there are some who died in the wars prior to WWII also.
