What readings are allowed if a mass is celebrated on Memorial Day other than the regular weekday mass? I am looking for a first and second reading as well as a gospel.

I don’t believe there are separate readings available for Memorial Day. There are masses for civil holidays or perhaps a mass for the dead, but since Memorial Day is not a holy day it does not have any precedence in the Church liturgy.

Our church always celebrates a 9:00 AM mass on civic holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving Day. There are special masses for Independence Day (and other civic observances), Labor Day (For the Blessing of Man’s Labor), and Thanksgiving Day. There is no specific mass for Memorial Day as such.

My priest usually uses the mass prayers from Independence Day (and other civic observances) and then uses the current weekday mass readings for that day. This year Memorial Day will fall on Monday of the 8th week in Ordinary Time. Ordinary Time actually resumes on this day because the Easter Season ends the day before on Pentecost.

My diocesan ORDO notes that it is an ordinary weekday. Ritual masses and prayers for Various Needs and Occasions and Votive Masses chosen by the priest celebrant in favor of the devotion of the people are allowed. [see GIRM 373 and 375]; also Daily Mass for the Dead [GIRM 381] is allowed. The last seems especially apt for this day.

Sorry, I don’t have the GIRM at hand to check the references.
