I love, love looooove guys in kilts!! A couple of my guy friends, husband included, wear the kilt. The less formal sort (less pleating, lighter fabric, no swag over the shoulder) and the utilikilt are much more conducive to everyday wear. My guy friend out in Wyoming is a big, burly archaeologist dude and wears a utilikilt out in the fields. Very brave man, that one 😉

So yes, kilts. Kilts are very good 😛

I would wear a kilt all the time if they were made with anything other than wool. Sheesh! Too hot in the summer, and I have my choices of several family clan tartans to wear too. But a camo cotton kilt with packets would be awesome. I’ll keep it mind for the future.

My fiancee loves seeing me in a kilt, but she prefers the really old fashioned kind. I’m much more comfy w/ a utilikilt.

In the past, and in the present on special occasions, men in certain cultures wear kilts.

I just learned about a man who created “utilikilts” - kilts made of camoflage material. They have pleats, a belt, pockets etc. There were men walking around in them raving about how comfortable they are. We’re talking for everyday wear, not certain occasions.

What do you think of men wearing kilts for everyday wear? —KCT
I honestly don’t know what I think of them. If I saw men just walking around every day with them, I’d think that was pretty odd…but I’m really torn because now that I’ve seen them, I REALLY want to see dh in one. He *is *Irish. And he’s got nice legs. 😉

All I know, is that even though I roll my eyes at the attempts some men make in the hopes of attracting females, as I usually find them stupid and immature, nothing makes me like a guy more than if he is in a kilt. Sorry, I just can’t help it. As a 21 year old, I can tell you that the pipers at this year’s St. Patricks Day parade were very much a distraction for me, and not because of the music:D

Also, I was once really into punk rock, and a lot of punk boys like to wear kilts with their studded leather vests, which looks quite good. The band called the Real Mckenzies comes to mind. I think kilts look nice, though the camoflauged ones, not so much.

I say, up with kilts (figuratively, of course. No one needs to see that. Ever).

I got married in a kilt. We had it made in the tartan of my wife’s maiden name.
I still have it and it still fits 6 .5 years later 🙂
My wife’s grandfather gave me his sporn about 4 years ago…a great gift.

And to set the record straight, the whole underwear thing: Here’s how it works:

If there is a King on the throne, the men don’t wear anything under the kilts.
if there is a queen on the throne, the men are required to wear undergarments out of respect. So, right now, you are supposed to wear underwear under the klit.

I have a Kilt, Grant Tartan

A bit of an old photo, but it gets the point across. I was going to the pub that night, so I don’t just wear it for special occasions.
My Fiance likes me in a kilt too, and has said I can wear one at the wedding (Blackwatch though which is really the Grant Clan hunting tartan.)

Yours in Christ,
Thursday

I know several people who wear kilts. I know a few who have bought the utilikilt. 😃 This company comes every year to a convention I go to, they do quite well. 👍

OK… I read this thread last night but then I guess the ADHD side of me took over and I spent all evening looking at different kilt sites and tartan patterns. My son has been bugging me for a kilt for years… a plain black one… the site you linked to had some really cool ones but no way in heck am I spending that kind of money!!! So not I am back here… thanks for the link. I am looking into a good pattern for one and I might make him one… but thinking… 8yds of fabric… heavyweight cotton canvas… umm $8.95 a yd…$71.60??? Thats still alot of money!!!
try this link, i got myself a lightweight/casual kilt from one of my local shops a few years back so they do last, they are great for the rugby and football matches and can be worn with boots and any top of your choice so not just restricted to wedding and the like,
psst any can laugh at his peril lol

hmmm - some people think that is what happens in Scotland all the time. Kilts are for special occasions and ceilidhs. men are not allowed to wear anything under a kilt so better not wear them too much - could get a bit to comfy
I live in the Highlands of Scotland. On occassion, I will see a guy in a kilt for no special occassion. Usually, it’s some occassion he’s wearing it for - they’ll wear kilts here for situations that an American would wear a tuxedo. There are kilt rental shops, even. But, sometimes, they’re wearing them simply because they like to wear them.

Kilts are a fashion statement but are probably impractical. Women have taken to slacks probably for this reason. A more interesting question is when will men carry purses?
They wear sporrans with their kilts - which are purses. Calling them a “purse” will annoy the guys, though. 😉 But, they carry their cell phones, money, and cigarettes in them, just like a purse!

HA! Have you seen a Sporran? They are itty-bitty! Well, that could just be the dress sporrans, as opposed to the more casual, everyday kind.

So, now what do we do? DH saw the kilts and wants one (a utilikilt). I told him he could name his landscaping company Two Men in Kilts. Ha ha ha (yeah - I know the plural is still kilt, but kilts just sounds better to my ear 😛 ) I must admit, I’d love to see him in one, but I’m a bit nervous…I mean, what’ll people think?

Ladies - would you want your hubby in one? :o

Here’s a good Utilikilt pic for a Catholic message board 😉

Based on some of the people that post on this site, I am really surprised I haven’t read a post that asks if wearing a kilt is a sin or not wearing a kilt is a sin.

Ha-ha! It did make me think the opposite of the women dressing like men discussions I’ve seen  . —KCT
