Men carrying crosses

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the men that walk along the road carrying crosses on their backs. Sometimes they are dressed “like Jesus” in robes, sometimes they are dressed in modern outfits- jeans and t-shirts. Sometimes the t-shirts say “Preach Him”. There were quite a few of them walking up and down a busy four-lane road in my area on Good Friday. I know they hand out literature, sometimes anti-Catholic literature. They also hold up anti-Catholic, anti-Jew, anti-JW signs, among others. Do they belong to a specific church? Or does anyone know anything at all about them; their beliefs, etc.? I would like to know what to say to them if they approach me, as they seem to be more and more visible in my area, and rather aggressive at that. What do you say to a guy with a cross on his back?? It is quite surprising to see them with their crosses. They attract a lot of attention.

I don’t know this specific crew, but I know the type.

People who spend their time being “anti” anything are usually not very happy. Often they are former members of whatever they’re protesting who are angry (in many cases, justifiably so) at whatever they just left. There are “ex-Catholics” and “ex-Mormons” and “ex-Jews” and others you can find on the internet.

In most cases, I think the protests and other expressive forms of heresy are a temporary phenomenon. People need their space to work whatever angst they feel out of their system, before wandering off to do something else. As long as they’re not committing crimes (vandalizing a church or something) it’s probably better to just pass by and allow them the right to express themselves. Of course if they get violent or destructive, there’s 911.

Sounds like a southern Bible-belt thing to me.

I know there is a teen group that carries a large cross across the country as some sort of testament/missionary thing.
I read it in a Brio magazine (put out by Focus on the Family) once. Don’t recall anything else though.

The wrong one

nah, but they are always out at the corner of a busy intersection by me. They tend to be more towards the Southern Baptist/Evangelical type faiths. Ive always wanted to stop and have a debate with them, but i always have some place to be when i pass them
