Men Have "Luxury" of Being Pro-Life

A guy from work posted this on his Facebook page:

“I am not debating whether it’s right or wrong but only men have the luxury of being Pro-Life.”

There are so many things wrong in this simple declaration I don’t know where to begin…

Reactions?
 
I occasionally run across a variation directed at women which also makes me angry:

“Your pro-life position is so ignorant, because you’re one unplanned pregnancy away from being pro-choice.”

My response is usually:

“Wanna know what’s ignorant? ‘You’re one unplanned pregnancy away from being pro-choice.’ Guess what? I was pro-life in high school, I was pro-life when I got pregnant at 20, I was pro-life when I got pregnant at 22, I was pro-life when I worked my a-- off through college as a single mom, and I’m STILL pro-life now that they’re 9 and 6. How ya like them apples? Thought so.”

I usually don’t get any responses after that.

This is a common response among abortion supporters. It’s just another platitude to get around what they really mean: Killing is ok for them, as a matter of convenience.

Any Gynecologist’s handbook will tell you that from conception, you’re dealing with two lives.

I suppose you could say that all the people who have been born have the luxury of being pro-choice.
 
I’m fairly certain my wife would be extremely offended if someone had the gall to say those words to her.

It seems to me that there are a lot of men encouraging their girlfriends to use contraception and have abortions - if pregnancy doesn’t affect them at all, then why would this be? :confused: 🤷

Love that. That’s what I would say to someone who said that to me. “Only the born have the luxury of being pro-choice.”
 
Only men have the luxury of being pro-life?

Well isn’t that a wee bit obnoxious? It’s a position, it’s a rule, being pro-life. It’s the truth, to be pro-life. It’s moral to be pro-life. It’s not bound to men or women. Defending and promoting the very FACT that life begins at conception, abortion is murder and evil, caring and loving the unborn, is not bound to men or women. It’s both men and women, boy and girl, who can be pro-life.

In a broader context you could also say that the living seem to have chosen life for themselves, and don’t want to extend that right to the unborn… “Pro-life when it comes to me, Pro-choice when it comes to the unborn.”

In my case, I have a very close friend who did have an abortion and afterwards attempted suicide. Needless to say, she is no longer pro-choice.

Still, the arguments put forward in this thread are much more tame than some of the sentiments I’ve seen expressed. I recently had to unfriend someone on Facebook after they posted this rather tasteless “joke” (and I use the word loosely) which turned my stomach:

“If abortion is murder, then [oral sex] is cannibalism.”

The fact that someone finds that humorous says alot about their character to me; not to mention that it is such an illogical statement that it makes the mind boggle. Last I checked, sperm was not a human being. 🤷 No point using logic, though. The only possible frameworks within which abortion can be seen as acceptable are an illogical one or a completely amoral (or downright evil) one. I prefer to think that most pro-choice people fall into the former category.

They write things like that because of the way men abandon their women these days. In Omaha, where I live, 80% of black families aren’t raised by their dads! That’s secular society for you!

Now what would they say if men were selfless and loving towards their wives, and helped them to raise their children? This kind of stupidity wouldn’t be floating around.

So I have the luxury of being pro-life cos I’m a man? Yes, I do, because I’m a man who wants to help his wife raise his kids (assuming he ever gets a wife)! I dunno about you, but I’m no dipstick who abandons a woman in her time of need! Men don’t do that. Boys do that. Dumb boys.
 
As a man, you’d have to be a real pig not to support the carrying to term of a child you helped to conceive, whether the pregnancy was intentional or not. Real men are and feel bound to care for the lives they create, as well as the women who bear them.

The assumption that men would oppose intended pregnancy and somehow have the luxury to support pro-choice beliefs is sexism at its worst.
 
I’m failing to see the luxury here. In a time in which a child can be killed against the wishes of his or her father, it seems that being pro-life is no luxury; rather it is a matter of life or death.

It’s a stupid statement designed to stir up the idea that men are trying to “control” women. Same thing with this “War on Women” non-sense. Don’t get me wrong, it is a real war, but who are the victims? How many women have died in this war? Now how many babies have been murdered? So logically, abortion is really a war on .
