Menopause

Okay this is for the ladies (of course )

I’m not seeking medical treatment advice Im under the care of a good doctor.

I’m 33 and had to have a hysterectomy and my ovaries removed. I am in what they call surgically induced menopause. My mother has passed away and my older sister isn’t done with her cycles yet. I’m looking for personal experiences with menopause, especially how long the symptoms lasted for you. Thankfully I have nothing severe symptom-wise yet, and on a hormone supplement cream, but I just really don’t know what to expect. I kinda thought I’d have my mom and sister to ask, but it just didn’t work out that way. Thanks so much to all who share their experiences with me! :hug1:

I’m younger, but I can share my mom’s. In her case it went on quite a while but her symptoms were fairly mild - the occasional hot flash but that was it. She never did hormone treatment of any kind.

My MIL had a total hysterectomy in her late 30s and apparently had no menopausal symptoms at all. She said to me once she almost feels like she missed out (but she was dealing with some really rough issues so she was very relieved after the surgery and felt loads better than she did prior.)

Some women have more severe symptoms than others. For me, I was surprised by the whole hot flash thing. They wouldn’t happen that much but when they did it was like being in a food freezer one minute and being in the oven the next minute. This lasted a few years. Very strange experience. Also, I had some swelling of feet and ankles, but only once in awhile for about a year. It went away. The other thing is that I had trouble with falling asleep that I never had before and still have this problem. I never did hormone treatment so just let it run its course.

I did not have hormone treatments. I had no hot flashes. I was very lucky to have no negative effects. I realize that is not the case for most women, but I just wanted to throw out that out there that not every woman has a terrible experience. For once, I was one of the lucky ones.

I am nearing 60. My periods were like clockwork until age 58 and the last 20 months very erratic and haven’t had one for 6 months now.
My Mom had a partial hysterectomy at age 40 (left both ovaries in) never did hormones and said she never had hot flashes. She doesn’t know what her mother did.
Her sister also never had hot flashes natural menopause at 52 or so. None of my female cousins on that side had hot flashes and were done by about 51.
On my Dad’s side I don’t know, no female cousins, Grandma passed away.
I started having certain symptoms at age 50 but never any hot flashes until this last summer when my periods stopped. Holy moly they took me by surprise.
Very hot ,uncomfortable, felt like being placed in a blast furnace. Would happen at work my face would turn all red and I’d get sweaty, too,.
The Dr. I’m seeing now does not like HRT so I’ve been taken Estroven Max strength and they have really helped with the frequency and severity. But it’s winter now, too, and 25 below where I live.
I’m thinking about HRT I don’t know, just for the short term.
I’ve been told I have dense breast so higher breast cancer risk.

Convert in 99 from the research I’ve done sometimes they will supplement hormones for women having hysterectomies until the natural menopause age is reached(age 45-50 or so) if the ovaries are removed. One of my cousins did have a complete hysterectomy at age 45 no children never did have hot flashes or anything she reports to me.
