Well ladies, after not having a period in over 2 months, I’m having the heaviest period of my life. I had the worst period mishap of my life yesterday while we were at a museum. At least the girls got to witness how a woman deals with very bloody pants in a public place, and how to bum a tampon from a stranger in a restroom.(Don’t they ever stock those feminine products machines anymore? )

No hot flashes yet, but I’ll admit, the last few months I’ve really been emotionally more unsteady. My 11 yer old daughter tells me that some of her friends’ moms are also going through "mentalpause’. LOL. Good Lord, I feel like I’m hemmoraghing here. Not only that, my daughter is very pre-teenish, and frankly, getting a wee bit sassy in her own right. Gee, I’m so looking forward to going through menopause while she enters puberty!

I was kind of hoping that I just would have the smoothest transition and that I wasn’t going to get anymore periods. No, instead I get to bleed like a pig, how fun! This doesn’t seem like a good plan. Why do women have to go through all this misery???

I had to have a complete hysterectomy five years ago so I missed the surprises you are getting; however, I did get to go through the hot flashes that were fueled by Satan himself. I thought, at times, that I would literally burst into flames. And my skin would HURT. Finally I am ‘on the other side’ of all that, but darlin’ you are in my prayers…

All my friends are now going through it as well. Some are younger than me. I have to day, I am not looking forward to this at all. Actually I am hoping I am blest with a child in my old age here (42) with my new husband. So menopause can just wait so I can have a baby!!! If only it worked that way huh?

Blest one, my best friend had her daughter at age 42 when she remarried. . .so take heart, it can happen!

I had the same 4 years ago…are you saying the hot flashes stop because, mine don’t seem to be anytime soon! 😛

I seem to have lucked out in this part of us gal’s lives. My menopause was very easy. I had a few hot flashes and some emotional ups and downs, but I now seem to have none of that any more. But, before you envy me or tell me my life has been charmed, you should also know that I suffered from debilitating cramps that literally kept me bedridden for days on end each month. I tried every med known to man and then some and nothing took away the pain. So, I figure having an easy menopause is God’s way of treating me good after decades of pain, misunderstanding and poo-pooing by others (especially nurses), employers raised eyebrows and docking my pay for lost days, and snide comments.

I can certainly empathize with you. For the past few years, I went through the same thing - a couple months with no period, then the feeling that I was going to bleed to death! I did even go to the emergency room once because it was so bad. Finally, I had my last period just over 1 year ago, so I think I am done.

I have two daughters, one 13 and one 11 - it has been interesting around our house, to say the least! I still battle hot flashes and night sweats - I just don’t sleep as well as I used to, but I am glad I don’t have to worry about it any more.

Oh, and did I mention the lovely goatee that I’ve been working on? It’s a full time job keeping up with it. I hear the Dollar Store has reading glasses, BTW! I need to keep a pair in the bathroom so I can keep up on my chin.

Has anyone tried laser treatments for facial hair???

It does seem as if women suffer more than men in life, doesn’t it? Is it all because of Eve?

I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade here, but my friend thought she was at this point in her life (this was about 7 or 8 years ago). Her period stopped—it wasn’t because she was entering menopause…she was pregnant! 😃

I feel your pain! My periods became so heavy that I could not commute to work (a 1.5 hour drive one way), so I started working from home. I ended up having a D&C, which remedied the situation.

I became such a beast that I even yelled at my son for no reason whatsoever (which is NOT like me). That shook me up so much that I went straight to the drug store and bought a product called Remifemin. It’s black cohosh, a long-studied herbal remedy for the maladies of menopause. It’s over the counter and safe (as opposed to hormone treatment).

I changed over night. No more beastlyness, no more hot flashes.

BUT, go see your doctor who will do a test to check your hormone levels (to make sure it’s not something else), and ask him or her about black cohosh. It changed my life!

Dear Thann,
I just picked up some black cohash at the store yesterday, as a matter of fact. I also am taking St Johns Wort and Evening Primrose, plus lots of calcium. Also, my red blood count was a little low, so I started on iron and it’s improving. So, I’m trying to deal with this naturally. Thanks for the tip, hopefully the Black Cohash will help with the periods. I know my mood is better after taking that other stuff. I was really depressed this summer.

Hi ladies, think i am going thur this meno pause stuff too.i’ve just plain stopped haveing my period.I have no other symptoms.I do take vitamin B12 pills ,as i get older i know i body can use alot of that for my nervous system.I’ve had the problem with facial hair for a long long time,so i don’t credit menopause for this so wonderfull gift.My teen daughters help with plucking them out every few days,as i really have bad eyes sight.BEing teenagers, they do seem to make a lot of wise cracks.MY youngest teen daughter decided to bring up the subject of menopause the other day ,in front of mixed company, she at that point decided to say she thought that i was going thur it,that upset me that she was so rude.I did sit and have a talk with her later.I was wondering if the fact that i have so many kids might be the reason that i haven’t felt the hot flashes and all.hmmm, not sure.Hugs, blessings, freshwater

I am only in my 20s, so, God-willing, we are a big family away from ‘mentalpause’, but my Mom is getting ready for it, and I found out incidentally from my midwife that red raspberry tea is great to help with heavy bleeding, whether it’s post-childbirth, menstrual, or menopause related. It is fairly inexpensive to buy in bulk, and has basically no flavor, so it is good to mix with other teas, and has had great results for my mom (heavy bleeding), my sisters with their painful menstrual cycles, and even when I had bleeding from my miscarriage last winter. It helps ALOT and has no side effects, unlike some other medications and hormone therapies.

🙂 Hi,thankyou for the reply. This tea 'rasberry sounds good.I am going to try it ,as some of my girls go thur bad cramping also.Thankyou for your advise.I’ve just joined this group a couple of days now,i am so delighted at recieveing responces so quickly. Its wonderfull.God Bless you ,hugs, freshwater :yup:

I must make a distinction: Not just raspberry flavored tea works. It has to be made from the leaves of raspberry bushes! It is available at most health stores. In fact, it is the major ingredient in many boxed teas marketed for women at the same shops! I buy mine loose in bulk form, so it is really cheap, but I could actually harvest the leaves from the bushes myself. I think I might do that next summer!

Hey, I just so happen to have my own raspberry patch! Praise God!

Another thing that started happening about a month ago is that my hair started coming out in clumps. I guess it thins out with the hormone changes? I was shocked at first, but a work friend said that that happens. I guess that’s why little old ladies don’t have thick hair, huh?

Marilyn Shannon’s book “Fertility, Cycles & Nutrition” has alot of information about making all stages of life healthy, especially in using vitamin and mineral supplements formulated under her guidance for our individual needs and stages in life. You can get her book through CCL, or even on Amazon. Also, I get my vitamins from a pro-life Catholic pharmacy: www.kuhar.com

Hi,okay,i get it now.Good thing that you let me know ,the leaf!I have a few books on vitamins and such,i’ll look up this one, some times i can tell if i can take some thing by going into my books.I take medicines,so i always check to see if it s okay to take something else with it.I like the idea of natural things to take.Hugs, freshwater

I am 5 years post hysterectomy and I STILL have hot flashes! They drive me nuts! :banghead: I am on an estrogen patch, and it helps but not completely. I wonder if it is because I was 38 when I had the hysterectomy.I have tried just about every holostic thing I can find to no avail. Oh well, Maybe someday they will go away!
