Mere coincidence? I don't believe so

Bear with me on this, but I wanted to get everyone’s opinion on supposed coincidences in our lives. I always believe God has a plan for us, and everything happens for a reason. The following is what has happened to me and my family to make me believe this more then ever:

My wife had our 1st son in Sept. 1992. Her pregnancy was not a good one, and she had toximia (she went from 110 lbs to 198 lbs because of water weight). After giving birth, she had congestive heart failure due to the excess fluid. The Doctor’s decided that her heart could never go thru child birth again, so they recommended her to have her tubes cut and tied at age 21. After the tubal, my wife was required to go to a heart doctor 1 time a year for check ups. After several years each check up said her heart was in perfect condition. All along we wanted another child, and discussed adoption. After 10 years we finally decided to see if her heart was healed enough to go thru labor. After several specialists reviewed her records and ran her thru tests, she was given an ok to proceed with child birth. We were excited, and went to a fertility specialist to determine how to go about getting pregnant. After several months, I took a job in another state, this put all plans on hold. We moved and found a new church (there was only 1 Catholic church in our county), Our Lady of Fatima. Once we settled in, my wife contacted the lone fertility specialist in our area. We went thru all the tests again, and scheduled the date for her surgery to reattach her tubes. My wife hoped for having a miracle baby as she called it.The surgery was a success and we had to wait 6 weeks before trying. They told us to not expect to get pregnant for at least 6 - 8 months, and gave us a 70% chance rate of success. Fortunately there was no wait, as we got pregnant on the first try. 9 months later and with no complications, our “miracle” baby had been born on Oct. 13th 2006. He was baptised at our parish Our Lady of Fatima. The miracle of the sun at Fatima occured on Oct. 13th 1917

I don’t think it was a coincidence, God brought us our miracle, and we expect #3, a girl next April.

What I didn’t put in the original post (fear of too many words), was what experiences have others had like mine. I have always enjoyed hearing the different ways our Lord has worked in our lives.
 
One of the main events that brought me back into faith and the Church ( was a very lax catholic) occurred when my wife (then fiance) and I were living together (in sin) in a foreign country while in the military. We were living off-base with the local citizens in a large apartment. One month we had over spent our budget and didn’t have enough money for rent. Our landlady had the rep of evicting if you missed a single pay date. We also didn’t have enough money for groceries so we were pretty worried. My fiance (now wife of 20 yrs) really started to panic. She got very upset and kept saying “what are we going to do? We’ll get thrown out of the apartment AND the military if we don’t pay!!”. I calmly said, “Let’s pray. God will take care of us. We just have to trust in Him.”. She said, “What??! Is God going to send us a check from heaven??!!!”.

The next day I went on-base to check my mailbox. In it was a letter from my Dad informing me of my grandfather’s passing. Included was a check for $500 that he had left for each grandchild.
I was stunned because our rent was $400 which left $100 for food and heating coal. I took it home and held it up in front of my fiance. She said, “what’s that?”. I said, “A check from heaven!”. At that moment we both began an earnest effort to be better catholics!

Praise be to God!

Isn’t God wonderful! Thank you for sharing your 3 miracles with us.

If only ALL the world could see the birth of each child as you and your wife do. Because each time a child is born… it is a miracle.

Hey,

Thanksgiving weekend 11 yrs ago, I had a dream that God asked me if I trusted Him. I had a vague feeling that He was talking about a baby. I said yes(of course with some hesitation–really didnt want another one). Well, lo and behold, two weeks later I was pregnant:) And I knew I was pregnant before I even took the test.

Also when I was delivering my 2nd dd I was having a little bit of difficulty getting her out (she was a big baby:eek: ) I was praying right and left. Not being Catholic at the time it was very unusual for me to call on our Blessed Mother. But as soon as I said “Mary” my little one popped right on out.

I love miracles! I’ve experienced/witnessed a few myself. I’d share, but I think I’ve shared them enough times before. Thanks for your miracles though!
This may be controversial, and I might get rebuked, but I think God spoke to me most (indirectly, of course, not an actual voice!) when I was at my most lost. I’m still not out of the swamp yet, but when I needed Him, he showed up in some strange sign as if to say, “Yep! I’m here! Keep swimming! I love you!”
God is good!

I would be careful here in your hasty generalization.

What plan did God have in mind with the 100,000 people killed in the Indonesian tsunami?

What plan did God have for the 300,000 people butchered with machetes in Rwanda?

We might not ever know. Let us remember that it is GOD who is master of life and death. We are not the ones who must know GOD’s plan.

On reflection then, we should not lift a finger to help these masses of poor unfortunates, since it must be part of God’s plan.

But the very first thought that arose in my mind was the second stanza of Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem, The Charge of the Light Brigade

“Forward, the Light Brigade!”
Was there a man dismay’d?
Not tho’ the soldier knew
Some one had blunder’d.
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred."

There surely is a place for discipline and obedience. But **blind **obedience, just because some general or cleric or holy text commands it? Never!

Free will of men in this case? The enormously large number of 100,000 died because of secondary causes to that Tsunami, such as poor infrastructure and medical access. The 300,000 were butchered by MEN with machetes. God did not do this, man did. I believe in the idea that God is here for us and if we open our hearts to him, and ask Him for what we need, then He can grant us what we need. Sure, he may not always give us what we want or think we need, because he knows what is ultimately best for our souls. And the nature of our existence is that we must suffer to learn and to earn. When we reach Heaven, it must be through trials and with nothing to miss here. This is what I was taught. “Give all that you have to the poor” etc. You won’t need it in Heaven. Just how *I *deal with it all.

Sorry I was not very clear. All I meant to say was, “There are some things we are not meant to understand.” Of course, we should help these people. We as Catholics can band together to be charitable. Was that the purpose of this event? Who knows? But still, we as humans were not made to understand all. Maybe one day, we will.

I have had God enter my life in so many ways! I can’t even begin to write about them all because there are so many.

I do rememer a time when I was about 18. I was walking in an industrial area on my way to a friend’s art exhibit party. There were a number of old factory buildings from the 1800’s around me and I was walking through them. My friend had a loft apartment there.

I heard a very loud “LOOK BEHIND YOU NOW!!” thought/voice in my head, so I did. There was a grey van with 2 men in it creeping up towards me. When I saw them, they accelerated and I RAN. Thankfully, I made it to my friends place safely (and out of breath).

The next day, I read in the paper that a woman was seen being forced into a grey van by two men and they were looking for the woman and the van and the police were appealing to people in my city that if they had seen a grey van fitting an observers description; to call the police.

I sometimes still wonder where that voice came from and what could have happened to me.

It later happened again that same summer while walking down a street after visiting with a friend. It wasn’t the best neighbourhood either. Anyway, I heard the voice/thought again, “WALK ON THE ROAD. NOW!!” So I began walking on the road. While walking on the road, I looked over and there was an alleyway with a man hiding inside. He gave me a very aggressive look as I walked past. It really scared me.

I moved out of my home to the city when I was young and very naive. I really believe that God or my guardian angel looked over me during that vulnerable time.
 
I dont believe in coincidence. It is all the Holy Spirit although at times His reasons are obscure and unknown.

Maybe the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary allowed the Rwandan Genocide to show his glory and power. We want all the world to love the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and this is the only even that I know of where apparitions of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and her commands: say the Most Holy Rosary, repent, pray the Chaplet of Seven Sorrows has been recorded in the New York Times: query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9400E4D81738F93BA35757C0A96F958260

As the spiritual life is more important than the physical life, I hope to use this as a great opportunity to show people the way to the holy spiritual life

It’s just that sometimes people can be party-poopers, and get offended when someone who’s not a canonized saint feels God gives them a little “Hello!” or a nudge. I try not to get those ones upset and myself in trouble, though it happens sometimes before I catch myself. Guess they feel left out, like, “I’ve been doing my best all these years, I totally believe in him, etc. why doesn’t God say anything to me?” Why should he? He already knows you’re on board, good on ya, right? More likely, I think God talks to us and gives us signs all the time and we’re just too into giving scientific explanations for everything that we miss it. Somewhere I heard Einstein was working on a mathematical proof of God’s existence before he died. I also heard he said, “Religion without science is blind, science without religion is lame.” We all call my grandfather the “Mad Scientist”, he was an aeronautical engineer for NASA. He’s one of the brainiest people I know, and the most devout Catholic! Now there’s one for the atheists to ponder! 😉
 
Here’s my “coincidence”.

My name is Dominic, so my patron saint is St. Dominic (the Rosary one).

His feast day is August 4th, my half birthday.

St. Dominic is known for fighting heresies of his day. I believe I do that as well. Many a time I have stood up for the faith against very nasty anti-Catholics, either on this site or Youtube.

I don’t, however, feel any connection to the Rosary or the Blessed Mother (I kinda wish I did).

But, hey, I’ll take what I can get! 👍

Also, to the OP,

I was thinking of making a thread like this. Thanks for making it first. Great minds think alike, don’t they?
