This.

On a related note, I gave a child behind us in mass last night a little something after mass because I heard him whisper to his mum at the consecration - “there should be bells, why aren’t there bells?” So nice to see a young child noticing the details of mass (and their omission at certain times).
We use wooden clackers at our parish for the Consecration at Holy Thursday. They are also used for the Procession of the Blessed Sacrament out of the church into repose in our chaple.

They look something like this

the congregation at my church are in for a surprise tonight as the priest has asked us as choir to bring along any noise maker to use throughout the ringing of the bells tonight. What little do they suspect unless word has got around… We got some of those party blower whistles. am actually looking forward to the effect unless as usual not many go but the ones who are there… 👍
Englishredrose, you keep forgetting to make it clear that you are not a Catholic. Some people might get very confused when you talk of what is done in your parish, thinking that you are talking of what is done in a Catholic church (and possibly getting a bit shocked about it, in the present instance ) not realising that you are Anglican, and talking about the Anglican church you attend.

Believe me, party blower whistles would NOT go down very well in ANY Catholic parish, whether at an OF or an EF.

I still haven’t had a chance to ask why this year, exceptionally, we didn’t ring the bells at the Gloria on Holy Thursday and the bells were rung at the Consecration. I suspect it’s because Fr. ordered that it be that way just like he ordered that no crucifix be used in the Procession to the Altar of Repose in direct opposition to Paschale Solemnitatis.

They were rung at the Gloria during the Vigil.
