What guides do you use for reconciliation?

I’ve found several online and they’ve been helpful to outline the Commandments.

For instance:
  1. I am the Lord your God. You shall not have strange gods before me.
-Do I give God time every day in prayer?
-Do I seek to love Him with my whole heart?
-Have I been involved with superstitious practices or have I been involved with the occult?
-Do I seek to surrender myself to God´s word as taught by the Church?
-Have I ever received communion in the state of mortal sin?
-Have I ever deliberately told a lie in Confession or have I withheld a mortal sin from the priest in Confession?
-Are there other “gods” in my life? Money, Security, Power, People, etc.?

We used the same one for our young adult retreat - but aren’t they Advent Reconciliation Services?

Its a great set of questions - I also like the ones by Father Corapi and the ones set associated by with the Divine Mercy but they are too long to shrink down to hand outs.

We had our Penitential Service tonight and, since our pastor is away to minister to a Mission, we had two visiting priests doing it. The second guy was a surprise he only arrived today and is overnighting on his way to another Mission.

This morning when we met with the priest who was going to lead the service, I mentioned that I didn’t much like the examination of conscience that was in the prepared Penitential Service we’d ordered. The format was that a reader read a few questions and the assembly then read a few questions. Previous experiences with this format had the assembly mumble the questions mechanically without pauses and no time for reflection. He suggested another type of examination, reciting the 10 commandments and asking questions after each commandment.

It was quite an adult examination of conscience and didn’t mince words. The priest read the commandment and another reader and I took turns reading the questions, all formatted as “Did I/Do I/Am I?” Not comfortable questions to ask and I’m willing to bet that, sadly, it was the first time in more than a decade that anyone had heard anything about artificial birth control, adultery, abortion, and pornography in our church. I wonder if anyone is going to complain.

Must admit that this was probably the best, if the most difficult, Penitential Service in years.

We used a version like that one tonight. The questions asked for the Fifth and Sixth commandments are tough and blunt and spoke of topics that have not been spoken of in our church in the years I’ve been here.

I wish we had something like that. Our penitential service is just a number of priests show up then starts hearing confessions. This year like last, there were 5 priests which included our own pastor. There were a lot of people, I’d say at least 50. And I arrived 15 minutes after the start of the service, and I would have imagined they started earlier because the pastor likes to open the parish 1 hour before any service. So if anyone arrived early he would have started hearing their confessions even before the start time.
