On these forums we read so much about what’s going wrong in our parishes. I know there are so many unorthodox practices going on out there. Let’s encourage each other and talk about what’s going right!

I’ll start. My parish is awesome!

Tonight I went to be remandated as an EMHC. We had a two hour training including a training video from our priest, a packet of info, and a letter from our awesome Bishop. Our “servant leader” taught us how to administer the sacrament with reverence, and made sure we were properly prepared.

I’ve been to several parishes in town, and they are all very orthodox. I’m going to contact my Bishop and tell him what a great diocese he’s running.

How about you? What is your parish/diocese doing right?
 
We’re restoring our traditions. It’s a slow process, but we’re heading in the right direction.
 
This is a great topic CC. Being a moaner myself its nice to reflect on what good.
Can I pick three things??
  1. The priets are amazing and generous confessors. I returned (again) recently after a long absence and they always very welcoming.
  2. The priest soemtimes gives amazing soul changing homilies.
  3. The church building is beautiful

Can you send me the information that your parish gave you? I’m working on a class for our EMHCs.
 
Terrific parish: very good priest, good homilies, very good confessor. And I can crack him up! Also, very good music. Few liturgical issues, good lectors. Nice people.
 
The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. A few sit around all the time with bated breath waiting for their priest to say something wrong and with glee will then have something to gripe about, but most are not Sunday Catholics.
 
The church’s interior ceiling is being scraped and repainted.

The louvres on the outer towers have been replaced.

Our organist moved away!!! Now we have to sing without any accompaniment, and I’m going to propose that we do the Propers. Yay!
 
The parish we have been attending got a parish administrator as the pastor was moved away, and he likes to use a lot of incense at Mass. This is the first time I have seen regular use of incense on Sundays (of course it might just be because it is Easter, but we will see). This has caused my 3 year old to walk around and pretend to incense things. 😛
 
I called the Bishop’s office this afternoon and left a positive comment for him. His secretary was so happy! She said he doesn’t get nearly enough encouraging calls. I think it must be awfully difficult to be a Bishop or a priest. It’s not easy leading sheep; we’re kind of hard to manage 😃

I encourage anyone who has something good to say about your parish or diocese, say it to the men who really need to hear it!
 
My parish has been using incense a lot lately (maybe because it’s the Easter season). I love incense!

Our beloved pastor just returned from a 3 month sabbatical mostly in Rome, and he gave the homily on Sunday and told us about meeting the HOLY FATHER!!! He said that he was introduced as Fr. Tom Rafferty, and that he is the pastor of a very large parish in Houston. He said the Holy Father said “A very large parish? God bless you!” I think the Holy Father knows the blessings and trials that come with pastoring a huge parish!

He said that the Holy Father emanated peace. This was just a day or so before he left for Cuba and Mexico. Our pastor said that he thought he probably had a million thoughts running through his head and was probably nervous, but that he didn’t act it at all.

What are some other good things? My parish has 80+ ministries. There is something for everyone! We have three priests and seven deacons. My church is beautiful.
 
We have a beautiful choir, a wonderful schola, very faithful parishioners, daily low Mass and High Mass/Missa Cantata on Sundays (with a chapel that is bursting at the seams – standing room only), processions, devotions, and orthodox sermons.

It is a blessing and a grace.

The church I attend just had it’s 10 year anniversary for perpetual adoration.
 
My parish is awesome!
  1. Tons of ministries so the church is alive and busy everyday of the week with different masses and activites of all kinds for all ages
  2. Two very good faithful and all around nice priests and we got a new deacon recently.
  3. All masses are always mostly full and parishioners are very loyal
  4. Tons of young families and many men involved in ministries which I hear is rare in other parishes
  5. Very strict rules for dress for lectors and EMHC’s as well as ushers which is having a good influence on the rest of the laity
  6. My parish uses incense very frequently, uses patens, priest encourages reception on the tongue for those that care about those things.
  7. Four to five weekend retreats yearly that has brought many people back to God.
  8. Most importantly a real sense of community and true love and charity is felt by those who serve the parish

Your parish sounds great! I would receive on the tongue if more people did it, but I don’t want to call attention to myself. Heck, I’d kneel if most people knelt.
 
I’ve got a great parish.

Two great priests, great homilies that make you think and bring you closer to Christ through His Church. LOTS of altar boys. Big families with kids galore.

Two priests and Three Deacons ( plus one Chaledean SubDeacon) mean no real need for lay EMHC’s.

Several men from our parish in various seminaries (diocesan and religious) , and 12 others ordained from our parish in the last 10 years.

Communion is offered at the Communion rail.

Lots of Latin in the Liturgy ( including one EF Mass on the Sunday schedule, celebrated by our pastor)

Oh yea, and Cardinal’s Arinze and Burke have led retreats at our parish 😃
