I try to keep politics out of my film-watching activity. (I even watch Vanessa Redgrave films!) If I didn’t, I know I would be missing out on some great performances. I do share similar politics to most current (liberal) actors, however, so I can understand why you, as a conservative, might want to be more wary.
In my youth I was on the same page politically as some of my favorite actors. Or politics just didn’t matter to me because I loved Hollywood and the movies. In the 90’s my politics changed and by the turn of the century I began paying attention when celebrities voiced their political views. It greatly influences my opinion of them and whether I want to pay money to see one of their movies.
I love The China Syndrome, and I think it is the best work done by Jack Lemmon and Jane Fonda. The story is so interesting and really exciting up until the very end. Jane Fonda is uber-liberal and so was her father, Henry Fonda. However, in those days Henry Fonda was close friends with Jimmy Stewart, who was Mr. Republican. Both parties were different back then, not as extreme as they are today.
Jack Lemmon was great in that movie. Jane Fonda reminds me so much of her father the way she looks and delivers her lines.
I don’t watch Meryl Streep films because she is a celebrity and not much of an actress.
we all have our preferences, but most of Hollywood and the Academy of Motion Pictures would disagree with your description of her as an actress. She is one of their darlings.

He played a concert about two years ago at the nearby Inn of the Mountain Gods near Ruidoso, NM and the girls from my senior class in high school (in El Paso, TX) had an impromptu reunion. I ran into him at the coffee shop before the show but I was too tongue-tied to say a word to him!
