I have a general question.
I understand that muslims recognize Jesus as the messiah; *O people of the scripture, do not transgress the limits of your religion, and do not say about God other than the truth. The Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, is no more than a messenger of God, and His word that He threw unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. *
Yet also firmly claim he was nothing more than a prophet and was not crucified or died by crucifixion.
My question is, how then is he the messiah? What did he do to merit the title “messiah” besides being ascribed this title in the koran?
I am of the understanding, and I may be incorrect, that it is somewhat an impossibility to be both the “Messiah” and “just a prophet” both at the same time, as the messiah was to be prophet, priest and king, eternally appointed by God. Along these lines, if Jesus was (for the sake of argument) both Messiah and just a prophet, then how can Muhammed be the greatest prophet. Wouldn’t the Messiah-ship of Jesus make Him greater.
I suppose I have two questions;
(1) what did Jesus do, according to Islam, that makes Him Messiah if he was not crucified and nothing more than a prophet like Moses, David, Isaiah etc?
(2) how can a prophet be greater than messiah?
Thankyou for your time
