Metal Liturgical Crucifix?

Hello,

I found a larger ornate metal crucifix (13" X 8") among some items. This crucifix has an attached threaded screw at the very bottom of the cross (about 1/2" long). Could this be a liturgical crucifix possibly used as a processional cross or maybe screw onto a baptisimal font? I have been unsuccessful in any of my research. Any information would be greatly appreciated. (I have a picture, but have been able to attach to this post.)

You say you found this among some other items. I’d be curious to know what else was with it. One possiblity as to its use is that it may have been part of what some funeral directors call a “Catholic Set”. This refers to equipment that is used during a Catholic wake. I used to be in that line of work, and what you describe sounds a lot like a crucifix that may have been attached to a spiritual bouget tray, or even placed on a stand behind the casket. A local funeral director might be able tell you if the item you have was used for that purpose.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. Unfortunately, the other items among this crucifix were housewares, etc. - nothing relating to this. However, I appreciate your information and will research this further based on what you told me.
