In other words, to what extent, if any, does Hinduism teach that there is something above and beyond human existence?

I know that it is a wide and wild question.

Also, I know that there are, most likely, many different schools.

You need to read the Vedas and Upanishads. Start out with God when he came to us or others anyway once without flesh as when Jesus did come. Sri Krishna IOW in the bhagavad gita

There is - but much like any other cultural tradition, its breaks over a number of points based on philosophical school and specific religious devotion.

It would be more appropriate to ask what the typology of Indian metaphysics would be, since “Hinduism” is an adequate term to describe the sheer diversity of thought find in India.
