Is there one standard method of Baptism in all Methodist Churches? For instance, if I were to see a baptism in the Methodist Church in my town, would the same form of baptism be used as if I were to go to the next town?

From the many, many baptisms I have witnessed, they all follow the same practice and standards. The only difference may be how the pastor presents the newly baptized. They do baptize infants…

I’m in a Methodist school, even though my whole family, including myself, is Roman Catholic. We have Praise and Worship every Monday morning, followed by a sermon from our chaplain or any guest speaker.

I’ve gone to Methodist services before and it seems to me like half of the service is taken up by Praise and Worship.

One curious thing is that somehow, in all my years in this Methodist school, we have not once recited the Lord’s Prayer - a big contrast from the Catholic Mass, where we recite it each time.

We usually recited it only during communion and baptism. The one thing you will never hear is the Nicene Creed…too Catholic i guess. My former pastor actually told me once that the reason we didn’t have communion every week was because it was “too Catholic”. He said it was not coming from him, but from members of the church. Oh well…

Peace be with you,

Methodists are an out growth of the Anglican Church before it became the Episcopal Church of America. They are essentially, Anglican.

Peace.
The Methodist Church is actually senior to the ECUSA which was founded as a seperate denom in 1789 when Seabury was consecrated as a Bishop by some Scots.
The Methodist church began during the Revolution when Wesley consecrated Coke and Asbury so that the Americans would not be without clergy to perform the sacraments.
The Methodist Church was never meant to be seperated from the English Church but that is how things ended up due to the war.
I would say it is as Anglican as the ECUSA or any Continuing Anglican Church in America and senior to all.

The Nicene Creed is said quite often. And many UMC’s celebrate weekly eucharist. And the Lord’s Prayer is said every worship service at my church.

???

The Nicene Creed is in my copy of the United Methodist Hymnal/Book of Worship but the Apostles Creed is the one said most often.
The UMC in my area (Alabama) takes eucharist once per month which is four times more often than the Baptists:)

I have a good friend who I have known for about 15 years who is Methodist, and I volunteer at an ecumenical mission meal for the poor that is held at a Methodist Church, so I know a bit about Methodists. They are wonderful Christians! 🙂 In fact the former pastor of the Methodist Church that has the mission meal (who has since been reassigned by his Bishop [the United Methodist Church has Bishops, just like the Catholic Church] is married to a Catholic woman (she practices her faith); he never even considered trying to convert her and believes that what she believes is her choice! 🙂 I was feeling depressed because I had been laid-off. I asked the Methodist minister to pray with me. He gave me a Bible verse to read on my own, then prayed with me. I immediately felt like a weight had been lifted off me. I still keep in touch with him. He is a wonderful man of God. I still pray for him that maybe he one day will become a Catholic, but I trust that God our Father will save him because he has lived his life as a Christian the best way that he knows from what he has been taught. And my good friend is a wonderful person too; he is an active member of his Sunday school class and would do anything to help a person in need. In terms of charity towards those who are less fortunate, the Methodists are probably one of the best religions/denominations! 🙂 From my own personal experiences, probably Methodists and Catholics help the poor the most. Methodists may even be better in that regard than Catholics (at least the ones I know). Methodists that I know are wonderful Christian people! ❤️

I used to live next door to a Methodist Chapel. The neighbour on the other side was also catholic [only in name] and used to run his garden strimmer underneath their window every sunday just as the preacher was about to preach so that you could not hear what he was saying.

I took great offence at this and though raised as a catholic, felt it my duty to attend the chapel as a sign of both my disapproval to his unChristian behaviour and to show my solidarity with them.

I became a regular attender so that I was still attending long after he had moved from our village.

It was there that I rediscovered my voice and now sing with great gusto at mass.

I will always remember some of the fantastic sermons. Always remember an old preacher with a very broad Norfolk accent who ended his sermon with the words about the bible that it 'started with a tale of a garden and ended with a city of gold [revelation]

Many fond memories of Methodism

God bless you 👍

What your neighbour did was horrible! I commend you for being a good Christian! 🙂 Not only did you show a good example but also you probably did more to show what true Christianity is about (by not being angry or hostile, and showing love instead of hate). :blessyou: ❤️ My Methodist family and friends (as well as my Lutheran, Jewish, and Catholic family and friends would all be proud of you!).:clapping:
