I feel like perhaps others are reading too much into it. I just thought it was a great example of a Protestant being able to look beyond his denomination and find truth in another. He is a godly man and a pillar of the community.

I thought it was really nice, and the preacher was great - lots of humor, and very interesting. I loved the part where he said he wished he was an African American minister so he could get an “amen!” or a “Hallelujah” out of his audience. I will definitely listen to the rest of his sermons on other Christian denominations.

Methodists are so nice. My son is a Methodist and when I have attended his church, I have been impressed by the friendliness and transparancy of the congregation.

This is actually pretty good! However…he is still wrong about Mary…she is the Mother of God…but he said we worship her as we do Christ…when are they ever going to get that right! Ugh! She is His mother…and she leads us to her Son over and over…our Heavenly Mother! God bless you all!

Yes this bothered me as well. But at least he said “some” Catholics worship her. Still, I’ve never met any of these Catholics! haha

I just wanted to thank the OP for posting this link. I enjoyed the sermon and am forwarding it to my mom & dad–a lapsed Catholic and an ecumenical Methodist. I am a Catholic convert who is blessed with an ecumenical spirit, and it gives me hope and joy to encounter others who share my yearning for unity in the body of Christ.

You’re welcome! Most of the staff in my parish has watched it as well and all really enjoyed it. I actually wanted to email the pastor and tell him I enjoyed it but couldn’t figure out how to from the website.

I know! He is very funny! My brother in law is actually a kids minister at a Methodist church (he used to work at this one) and he is a great guy and wonderful dad to my nephew. So the Methodists have a place in my heart as well.

Triumphalism can make one a better Catholic; however, believing one’s Roman bishop-led tribe to be better than any other tribe does not lead one to a better understanding of Christ.

I see what you’re saying and I understand that you believe my observations are intrinsically less worthwhile due to the fact that my tribe is not led by a Roman bishop. However, I feel that your mindset is symptomatic of a problem that you have. One of the dangers of triumphalism is an impaired ability to judge the value or morality of your own group and the things that are associated with it, and the argument that you make at this very moment is a fine example of this.

I read somewhere the dangers of Spiritual arrogance! Just wonder if you have?

As a trail member this is a first for me in reading responses on the Methodist Pastor.

Many of you seem very knowledgeable, but the responses of some have taken on
a personal tone of self defense. I am not interested in subscribing to a sight where adults are in constant bickering of their beliefs as if they were five.
Attempting to prove who they believe themselves to be in a public forum, and politely making their necks all stiff toward others for slightest reason.
I suppose this is the whole idea behind the sight?

I found the Minster’s sermon very interesting, and thank him for his sincere Prayers, and sorrow, for what The Catholic Church is going through. Not to mention her members.

It is quite clear “Subjectivism” was one of the factors in the Reformation.
And it is disturbing seeing how the present responses prove nothing has changed in the least. If one attempts even a hint of Peace in regards to personal belief, a crowd gathers with stone in hand.

Haha! He kind of does! You can definitely tell he’s a Southern guy! And yes he’s a great preacher!

I just listened to the Ministers sermon. It was beautifully done. Why, because he spoke from his heart. God is working his way in that man.

Let’s not get to carried away here. I am Methodist, and I think Catholics are good people, but we have a totally different belief system. While Methodist doctrine upholds Anglican/Catholic beliefs we have many differences. I agree with Baptist doctrine more so than Catholic.

What you should consider is that one must have authority to teach doctrine and scripture shows that it flows from Jesus to the Apostles.

Our constitution teaches the rule of law but it must be interpretted by a legally appointed authority, the supreme court. Our bible is the inspired word of God and teaches God’s will but it must be interpretted by a properly appointed authority, the Catholic Church in succession from Jesus.

The protestant churches vary so much from each other and the doctrine that was taught everywhere by everyone in the early christian church because they abandoned the legal authority and created their own. While the King is away who has the authority of the King? The steward given the keys of the kingdom - Peter and his successors.
