Does anyone else smell schism and relativism?

I answered this on the thread you started in the Non-Catholic Religion forum.

From the article:

“The church is not free to disregard the standards of justice and inclusiveness that are preached by Jesus Christ … and are a part of church law,” Stroud said after church authorities read their decision at a hotel.

I’m sorry but she seems to forget that Jesus also told people to STOP SINNING!

This is the best part from the article “After Stroud disclosed the relationship to her congregation two years ago, the church defrocked her, meaning that she could no longer serve communion or baptize anyone.” I would hate for them to find out the truth which is that NO one outside the clergy in The Catholic Church can validly serve Communion…so she didn’t lose anything in reality…you can’t lose what you never had.

As a former Methodist, no the reversal of the decision doesn’t surprise me at all. The loosey goosey, here today gone tomorrow, let’s do whatever we want relativism is exactly what I fled when I left the Methodist church. I am surprised though because the church HAS taken a relatively strong stand on defiant homosexual clergy. They had a ‘don’t ask don’t tell’ policy but once a homosexual called out the bishop they would have to deal with it.

I am saddened for my former church and I am sure John Wesley is looking down and wondering why there is madness in the Methodists.

Does anyone think this will open the doors of moral and theological relativism and the UMC will actually begin ordaining practicing homosexuals and blessing homosexual marriages? I am unsure if she is a special case or if her case will actually overturn the UMC’s stance on homosexuals at the next Conference. For the sake of the UMC I hope that this appeal will be overturned. But it seems as if the once fairly conservative church I once loved and worshipped in has gone away and has been replaced by a liberal church that gets blown around my every secular wind that blows within the UMC. So sad.

Maybe if they do…then some of the Gay Catholics who want the Church to conform to their selfish hedonistic lifestyles will go infiltrate them instead of trying to change us.

I don’t want people to leave the Church, I just want them to change their ways, not the Church. But they have free-will and we can only tell them the truth and their reply usually is “what is truth?”

DU

Same here…I would love for them to change and fully accept all of the teachings of The Church…however, when they constantly attack our Church, our orthodoxy, and our Pope…without any thoughts of conforming to orthodox Roman Catholicism…then it is just best if they go find a place that will be indifferent to their sinful ways.
