Does this mean that open and practicing homosexuals will now be permitted to become ministers in the UMC? I ask this because I currently am a member of the UMC and this may help get people off my back about my converting. Plus for me it just puts one more nail in the coffin.

That’s what it means, UMC ministers are also invited to serve as chaplains at you local Planned Parenthood clinic too. If I were you, I would make my converstion quickly and publically, but then again, I am not one to mince words or act timidly. The UMC and the Episcopal churches are falling down the slippery slope of moral irrelevance. Please come home to Rome.

Believe me Scott, I am working on it. I have to admit though I would like to wait and see what the UMC does on this, just to gloat a little so I can help bring them home with me. But I guess that would be selfish and not show humility. My actions may speak louder than words.

The homosexual lobby is implacable. In my former denomination they just keep at it. No matter how often they lose they just keep coming back. The only way to stop them is to be rid of them if they are unwilling to comply with a church’s doctrine. They of course immediately moan about “pluralism and diversity”. That stops as soon as they are in charge after they finally win. “Where orthodoxy becomes optional it soons becomes proscribed”. If they were honest they would leave and form their own churches. But they know that would be futile and sterile. So they subvert and take over other churches. This causes schisms and decline in those denominations. The only cure is the one they cannot embrace.

From the article:

“The church is not free to disregard the standards of justice and inclusiveness that are preached by Jesus Christ … and are a part of church law,” Stroud said after church authorities read their decision at a hotel.

I’m sorry but she seems to forget that Jesus also told people to STOP SINNING!

Openly promoting someone who as well openly admits to a lesbian relationship–maybe by now the UMC would have its flock think of moving to other denominations. Then again, moral relativism is rampant in some of those denominations, so it won’t make much of a difference. I agree–a sin is a sin, and the UMC has much to ponder with what happened.

Snowman10 as a former Methodist, please consider coming Home. I was heartbroken by my former church between their inconsistent response to the homosexual clergy issue when it states CLEARLY in the Book of Discipline that active homosexuals were not to function as ordained clergy. What part of NO do they fail to understand? We had the same issue with a lesbian in the NW. One body of the church said she couldn’t remain an ordained minister, another said well yes she violated the text of the law but they prayed about it and decided she didn’t violate the spirit of the law? HUH?

Then when I heard the STRIDENT support by METHODIST MINISTERS to allow abortion on demand, any time for any reason, that was the end. I had my own dark night of the soul and knew I could not remain in that church. Satan has taken over in the guise of ‘tolerance’ and ‘women’s rights.’ They are willing to allow the slaughter of the innocent while simultaneously railing against capital punishment. How can any rational person hold such opposing views?

I guess I’ll get off my soapbox but the anguish I went through when I realized I was in a church that was being overpowered by evil forces is heartbreaking to me even now over a year later. I feel I’ve abandoned some wonderful people but I could not stay.

From the digest of the Committee on Appeals of the Northeast Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church:

The verdict and the penalty are set aside. Although the Committee believes that the evidence in support of the charge was overwhelming and would be sustained in the absence of legal (church law) error, the Committee’s analysis of two particular questions of (Church) law compels it to conclude that legal error vitiates the verdict…

In short, some procedural matters were not handled correctly.

I mean no disrespect and pray I will not be suspended or banned but that is a seemingly bull **** execuse for allowing her back into the clergy. Due process is ok within a secular government and in some cases ok within a theocracy, but this is ridiculous. She openly admitted her lifestyle and behavior, end of discussion. This is all my opinion though.

As I’ve mentioned before I was a United Methodist minister for twenty seven years. I even received awards for evangelism. I left it all in 1999 not just over this question but over the fact that my last bishop taught that the Trinity and the Two natures of Christ were just metaphor. I made an official charge of heresy against him. I also retired at 52. It took a while before we could find appropriate work and am still not making much money but freedom from such sin is well worth it.

I plead with all who are now trapped in old line Protestantism whatever its name to leave and come home.

Another victory for human rights…I applaud them for their strength, and courage.

Me no Methodist no more. Me happy. Good Methodists joining Catholic Church. Bad ones making John Wesley turn in his grave.

Since when is getting ordained in a church “human rights?”

And by “strength” you mean bowing down to social norms, and by “courage” you mean fearing the backlash from gay and lesbian groups. They’re cowards.

Oh well Lisa, maybe your friends will join you one day, God only knows.

To deny someone the same privileges and “rights” as anyone else qualified for that position solely based on gender and $exual orientation is a denial in that context…no different than the jim crowe era…etc… but I will concede and call it a victory over discrimination if that helps you. Regardless of what the right wing bible bashing hate filled conservative right believes - there is no biblical basis for lowly humans to deny other lowly humans rights based on notions of sin…if that were the case we would all be relegated to home arrest…because we are all sinners.

Oh and they support “civil” unions (sodomite marriage) as well.

umc.org/interior.asp?mid=1753
We see a clear issue of simple justice in protecting their rightful claims where they have shared material resources, pensions, guardian relationships, mutual powers of attorney, and other such lawful claims typically attendant to contractual relationships that involve shared contributions, responsibilities, and liabilities, and equal protection before the law.
Now if that isn’t a civil definition of marriage what is?

Again,

There is no civil right to ordination. None. It does not exist. Homosexual behavior is an abomination to God. There is no question about that. If persons disagree with that, i.e., if you think the Church is wrong, go out and start your own.

I am so tired of this liberal rhetoric. Boohoo, the evil conservatives! Give me a break. Why are you even here? Are you here for your own pride? To show us Catholics why we’re terrible people for being “discriminatory?” You came in here with your fists up and refuse to listen to what we have to say, not only that, but you refuse to even try to understand where we are coming from. I would expect from a Chrisitian to practice what he or she preaches. How can this be done when this woman is directly contradicting what the bible says? Would you puff on a cigarette and then tell your kid not to do it? No. If this woman is so concerned with living out the gospels and doing what Jesus instructed ALL of us to do, then she should be doing the same.
