Methodists reinstate lesbian minister

You are bad person if you think that hating people, and denying people a claim that another person with the same qualifications has a shot at - based on gender or $exual private matters is something worth talking about? But hey - you said it. Do you feel evil? I’m here for scholarly pursuits…I didn’t have my fists up…I simply stated another victory for human rights…step out of your hate filled fog. There isn’t one human being who doesn’t contradict what the bible says…following that logic no one would ever qualify for the position. You ignorant people cherry pick passages out of the bible to support, and justify your hate. Heck there is a passage in the bible that describes anything other than eating locust and honey an abomination…Liars get married? Aren’t they sinners?..murderers get married…we don’t see the religious right upset becuase pedophiles get married?..you guys have a severely insecure, hate filled agenda that probably grew out of some cultural setting that you became immersed in…maybe your parents bent your brain …WHATEVER…Get a clue.

I am so tired of this liberal rhetoric. Boohoo, the evil conservatives! Give me a break. Why are you even here? Are you here for your own pride? To show us Catholics why we’re terrible people for being “discriminatory?” You came in here with your fists up and refuse to listen to what we have to say, not only that, but you refuse to even try to understand where we are coming from. I would expect from a Chrisitian to practice what he or she preaches. How can this be done when this woman is directly contradicting what the bible says? Would you puff on a cigarette and then tell your kid not to do it? No. If this woman is so concerned with living out the gospels and doing what Jesus instructed ALL of us to do, then she should be doing the same.

I think somebody is cranky today.

I hate evil.
I love people, even evil ones.
But I hate what they do.
If I didn’t love them I would let them persist in evil, damning themselves.
Love is wanting for someone what God wants for them, not giving them a hug.

Have a candy bar and a nap then come back.
 
Yea…almost every religious zealot seems to know what god wants and loves to judge people on that basis…but I’m pretty sure that in the bible it mentions something about how we can never know gods will…are you sure you guys just don’t want to be god?

It is definitely wrong to hate homosexual people. That being said, someone who teaches that homosexual activity is morally acceptible does not have the same qualifications as someone who teaches that it is a sin when being considered for a clerical position in a church that holds homosexual activity to be a sin. If I was hiring a math teacher and I had to choose between one who taught 1+1=2 and one that taught 1+1=3, I would choose the first one. When one believes in absolute truth, the morality of an action is as fact as the above math problems. By having a public homosexual relationship, one teaches that such a relationship is acceptable.

Actions can be objectively judged, the state of someone’s soul cannot. As for knowing God’s will, we believe that Christ founded the Church for the very reason of teaching us God’s will so we can live according to it.

If a lesbian minister gets up and preaches about morality, who’s going to listen while they carry on with their immoral behaviour ?
Thats why anyone in a position of authority, Jew or Gentile, I make no distinction, priests included, shouldn’t hold those positions.
They cause a lot of damage to the faithful, and rob some of their faith, we’re supposed to practice what we preach.

The verdict and the penalty are set aside. Although the Committee believes that the evidence in support of the charge was overwhelming and would be sustained in the absence of legal (church law) error, the Committee’s analysis of two particular questions of (Church) law compels it to conclude that legal error vitiates the verdict…

In short, some procedural matters were not handled correctly.

Hair splitting raised to an artform. They overturned the verdict because there wasn’t a sufficient definition of ‘homosexual’ and ‘active’ when the minister STATED she was a lesbian in a ‘covenental’ relationship? PUH LEASE.

I don’t predict a long tenure on this board if you keep up with the nasty tone in your posts. Are you aware that the Methodist Book of Discipline SPECIFICALLY says no active homosexuals can be ordained clergy? Ms Stroud knew of this rule and made specific reference to the rule when she told the bishop about her sex life. She KNEW she was violating the rules and she knew that she was risking her ordination and position as a minister.

Even our lax Supreme Court stated that private organizations can make their own rules. If the Boy Scouts or the Methodist Church wants to prevent homosexuals from infiltrating their organization or serving as some kind of official, they have that right. None of Ms Stroud’s rights were violated. She knowingly joined a church that did not allow homosexuals and knowingly violated the rule and knowingly made her situation clear despite knowing the risks.

I made my choice about the Methodist church. I knew the rules, I disagreed with them and I left. Ms Stroud can do the same thing. No one is forcing her to be a Methodist minister. That the latest case was overturned doesn’t mean the end of the story although I suspect if she IS reinstated the church will split in two. It almost split a couple of years ago over the Karen Graumond (sp?) case.

Please do a bit of research on Methodist rules before claiming Ms Stroud has the right to be an ordained minister. Also come up with something more original than anyone who doesn’t just think sodomy is hunky dory is a homophobe and a hater. That dog don’t hunt.
