Metropolitan Laurus, reigning hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in the U.S., has passed away. He was 80 years old.

Vichnaja jemu pamjat’!

I saw this earlier today and it kind of surprised me. I didn’t realize his age, but he lived a good life…Eternal memory!

Prayers and petitions,
Alexius:(

May angels lead him into Paradise; may the martyrs receive him at his coming and lead him to the holy city of Jerusalem. May a choir of angels receive him, and with Lazarus, who once was poor, may he have eternal rest.

James

May he rest in peace! He certainly left an important legacy.

On the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy no less. Very fitting for a man who was able to lead his flock in such tumultuous times and then humbly work for reunion when the time came.

Eternal Memory!

May he be in everlasting life with Jesus Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and all the saints!

Memory eternal! I am so glad that the Lord raised this holy hierarch up (along with Patriarch Alexy II) in the re-union of the Russian Church. Holy Orthodoxy and indeed all the world is richer for this re-union.

Metropolit Lavr of East American/New York
Slovak born, Ukrainian founded monastery in Iordanville, head of Russian Church beyond borders.
