Hello All, below is an open letter I composed for both the Kansas City Star and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The letter concerns the current ads running in Missouri which support both Democratic Claire McCaskill (running for US House of Representative for the State of Missouri) and Amendmen 2, which is to legalize embryonic stem cell research.

Please consider writing your own letters to the editors in opposition to this outrageous amendment.

Letter to the EditorIrresponsible, Heartless, and Self ServingI find Michael J. Fox’s television ad in support of Claire McCaskill and the passage of the proposed Amendment 2 initiative in Missouri to be irresponsible, heartless, and most definitely self serving. This initiative is intentionally named to deceive the voters of Missouri as to its contents. They achieve this by purposely leaving out the adjective “Embryonic” in the name of the proposed amendment. For that is indeed what this amendment is ALL about. This amendment allows for the destruction of human life if it occurs within 14 days of conception. What makes us human is our genetic makeup. This genetic makeup is completed at the time of conception, when sperm and egg combine genetic code to create new human life. At that time we are totally and completely human. Amendment 2 doesn’t declare humanity until 14 days later. An embryonic child is still just that – a child. It is obviously at a different stage of development than you or I, but it is still a child. It can have only one destiny; to continue to grow and mature as a living human being. The lives of these children trump any need for medical miracles, including ones that might one day cure Mr. Fox or others of their unfortunate situation. The lives of these children are more important than Mr. Fox’s ability to ever live or work in front of a camera without tremors!! Where life is concerned, the ends can never justify the means. You can not destroy innocent human life in an attempt to cure another.“Embryonic” stem cell research is simply not necessary. According to advanced studies, many researchers and medical scientists now agree that obtaining stem cells by other means (umbilical cord blood cells, and/or other adult stem cell harvesting) is quite adequate for advanced medical research. No one is against this type of stem cell research, not the President, not even the Pope.Via the “Great Lie,” Nazi Germany infamously killed millions of a group of people who had little political power – the Jews, all in the name of medical research. Like previous generation who fought such evil in World War II, we can not stand idly by while ideologues and/or organizations like Ms. McCaskill or Mr. Fox’ who continue to promote the de-humanization and continued slaughter of innocent children. The “Big Lie” that Ms. McCaskill and Mr. Fox’s are promoting in Amendment 2 is completely and utterly vulgar! The people of Missouri are morally right to vote down this proposed amendment.
