As to CRS, the plot has thickened:

redstate.com/svkenney/2012/08/02/scandal-redux-catholic-relief-services-edition/

Catholic Relief Services is a dues-paying member of the CORE Group, and even has advisors who are board members with decision-making power. The problem is that the CORE Group is a major proponent of birth control, which means that Catholic donations to CRS actually go into paying for membership in this organization.

There’s more.

The CORE group published a document promoting condom use–and two members of CRS are listed as people who reviewed and approved the document.

So Mr. Rivera’s initial claim that CRS does “not fund, support or participate in any programming or advocacy that is not in line with Church teaching, including artificial birth control” was false.

And isn’t that really the case with any of the major contentious topics on CAF? Headcovering (not as much as a couple years ago, but can still get heated), hand holding during the Our Father, the sign of peace, receiving Holy Communion on the hand or tongue, kneeling — on, and on, and on.

So the MV threads are not special in this regard, I think they seem that way because they are about one singular person, and not a topic in general. But I agree, they are hardly ever fruitful. It’s just so much easier if everyone just decides - if they don’t like it, don’t watch it - but don’t make it a personal crusade to change the opinion of others regarding what they like or don’t like. Since none of these debates are hardly ever over content (and even those are all opinion based as well) - it’s really just a “cup of tea” discussion, and really not worth the effort.

I agree

If anyone would like to discuss concerns with regard to Michael Voris or his apostolate, please feel free to send me a private message and we can continue the discussion offline. I think that would be far more productive;** the public threads always seem to get derailed and go off-topic.**

God bless,
Christine
Yes, they do. 😉

Honestly, the claims that Michael Voris is uncharitable is intellectually baseless. He is charitable in that he brings clarity to the topic in simple, straightforward terms. His technique of evangelization is reminiscent of that of Archbishop Fulton Sheen who also brought clarity to the topic in simple, straightforward terms. The same criteria also applies to Father Barron; however, he differs from the first two in that he always communicates in a low amplitude–a sort of inside voice–which cannot be considered a factor in determining the charitability of a person’s expressions of Truth. To be uncharitable is to bring confusion to the topic in muddled, general terms.

Another Michael Voris thread?

🍿
I thought the same thing. He sure gets a lot of promotion, and criticism, here. If the OP wanted to do something on Facebook, it should have been done on Facebook. At the very least, send a contribution in to CA for all the promotional advertising.

So let me get this straight. Just because YOU find a topic uninteresting, you feel that others should just go somewhere else so they don’t bother you with it? Since when did you own the CAF?

If you don’t want to read about it, and you think it is a waste of time, then why did you click on it in the first place, or take the time to post? I just don’t get the need for the snarky and really very rude response to the young person who started this poor beat up thread. He certainly did not ask for your flippant sarcasm when he asked his very legitimate question.

Dang.
And WE are the ones called uncharitable!!!

So Lizaanne appears on the scene again as Michael Voris’s policeman ready to dish out the same bombastic verbosity as her mentor is known for. Birds of a feather think alike.

To insult a forum elder who only made a minimal comment is totally uncalled for and well over the top. Keep it up, and MV won’t have any followers whatsoever.

I just created an event on facebook to get young Catholics energized about their faith …
Being energized about the faith is a laudable goal. I do think, in light of the above post, people can be too energized over personality. I think you it also laudable that you are using Facebook to support the faith. Use your own judgment on the link in question. There is no right or wrong answer and as long as you are doing your best trust God to lead others.

My reaction to reading your post:
whatshouldwecallme.tumblr.com/post/21990205865/when-i-see-a-guy-wearing-cargo-shorts

Seriously, I think you’re over-reacting just a wee bit, Lizaanne.

Ok - perhaps - but after awhile one sure does become tired of having to defend people’s honor, when it should never have to happen in the first place. Guess it got on my last nerve, but I’m not surprised.

Our whole secular society is so wrapped up in and enamored with scandal. Does your friend make any uplifting videos about the faith? Or point out the many things the clergy and bishops are doing right? Or are all the videos focused on how those few in positions of trust seem to abuse their trust, or in some way do not live up to the opinions of self-appointed watchdogs? That can get rather tiring, too, for the defenders as well as the audience of itchy ears.

Liza, I don’t understand why you were this hostile towards pnewton.

Unrelated (yet related note); the optics of calling oneself "ChurchMilitant.tv"is pretty apparent.

Okay, so here’s a bit of constructive criticism, or at least my attempt at it:

Corapi and the Blogs

Hello everyone … and welcome to the Vortex … where lies and falsehoods are trapped and
exposed … I’m Michael Voris.
Fr. Corapi and his decisions and recent actions are NOT the topic of this Vortex. What IS
the topic is the Catholic Media’s response to his actions.
The sanctimonious and self-righteous condemnation of Fr. John Corapi is frankly
disgusting.
And let me be very clear … this is not a defense or condemnation of his actions.
Frankly … I don’t know enough about the case to have an opinion. There are lots and lots
of unanswered questions.
But again … his actions and decisions are not the topic here today. The tone of the
“professional Catholics” on the internet however is.
And yes … we said TONE. Faithful orthodox Catholics who are sick of the corruption in
the hierarchy . sexual … financial and political … are constantly being slammed for the
amorphous TONE issue … as in too much Clarity but not enough Charity.
Well … if how these professional Catholics have ripped and derided Fr. Corapi is what
they mean by charity … then they need to go back to catechism 101.
I find it singularly interesting that none of them go out of their way to lay out full
disclosure … meaning … they don’t say repeatedly that they draw their paychecks directly
from the establishment Church or live off it on the fringes through broadcasts or writings
or being invited onto the public speaking circuit.
They are disingenuous at best to not fess up to that.
Here’s a clear picture. Corapi … among many things he said in the past … pointed out the
corruption in the Church. He unabashedly talked about the angry homosexual subculture
that controls so much of what goes on.
He blasted unfaithful bishops … meaning not only the obvious ones but also the ones who
quietly and cowardly sit back and let heterodoxy and heresy spread unchecked.
It isn’t a stretch of the imagination to conclude many of the enemies he made and noses
he got out of joint among the bishops and their lapdog media lackies are glad to see all of
this going on.
And now … the professional Catholics on the internet … are piling on … first stating their
supposed concern and prayers for Fr. John and then launching into a stream of criticism
1
that they themselves would wither under.
No matter what Fr. Corapi has done … and no matter how he responded … it is absolutely
certain that there are many who are quietly enjoying this sad case. As far as they are
concerned … one of their opponents is now gone.
And many of those who are quietly happy about it are making their views known through
websites with Catholic “celebrities” who have spared no time excoriating Corpai …
demanding he respond as Padre Pio did which is to suffer in silence.
One professional Catholic even went so far as to insist that Corapi adopt the attitude of
St. Thomas Aquinas and shut up.
That’s all well and good … and we should model the saints but it’s the tone they use in
saying it. Not to mention the overt hypocrisy.
While they insist that Corpai become an instant model of sanctity … a good number of
these professional Catholic celebrities are among the most back-biting spite filled
individuals you will ever encounter in private.
They have no business removing the splinter from Corpai’s eye until they remove not the
plank … but the FOREST from their own.
I don’t know the details of what went on in the curious case of Corpai nor do I fully
understand exactly what is going on right now.
What I do know is that the professional Catholics on the internet who have extremely
close ties to the very people who Corpai tore into need to be a bit more upfront about
their close ties.
They need to stop slamming Corapi … enough is enough … and start turning their invective
toward the people destroying the Church form the inside … and they could have the
courage and grace to start with the influential people at whose table they are happy to sit
and feather their own nests and fatten their own bellies in the process.
And while they are blasting Fr. Corapi for his approach … they might recall that Our
Blessed Lord saved his most extreme language for the professional crowd of religious
hypocrites.
As for my take on this piece… for any individual, I would say “Here’s the evidence that X person said or did Y… I attempted to contact X person for comment, to no avail.” I would be very open and straightforward. I would not make broad, vague accusations that provoke and entice the imagination, but are impossible to trace or source to any individual. I certainly would not assume I knew an individual’s malicious motivations, without providing ironclad proof, e.g., a “damning admission.” And lastly, even if I felt someone had malicious motivations, I wouldn’t engage in name-calling, and especially not in a specifically Catholic setting.

I say all this in charity, and hope it is received in charity. We all have room for improvement (I sure do), this is just a few things that cross my mind with respect to Michael.

Wow - you really have no idea do you (meant in the nicest way)!!! There are HUNDREDS of hours of solid catechesis and apologetics and other programs on the site!! The Vortex is only one 3-6 minute commentary piece - it is by no means the whole of what’s there.

Some of the shows with quick descriptions:
Majesty of the Faith - Quick hit episodes on understanding the Majesty of our beautiful Faith
Roman Forum - Interviews with prominent Catholic authors, speakers, and others
**Armor of God **- Deeper dive catechesis show discussing the key aspects of our Faith, and how we need to “put on the armor of God”.
Catholic Critic - A short show reviewing secular movies and books from a Catholic perspective
Moral Compass - Documentary style look at abortion and stem cell research
Brown Bag Bible Study - A great way to do a quick Bible study during your lunch break
Shadow Priest - A HUGELY popular show - an excellent priest, shown only in shadow (because it is the message, not the man, that is important), gives fantastic homilies on a wide range of topics

And still so much more…

Take a look out on YouTube - look for clips of The One True Faith. This is only one of literally hundreds of shows on the premium site.

I strongly suggest you get a free account (click the link in my signature) to see the free offerings, and even consider a one month subscription of the premium site - it’s only $10. I’m not trying to sell you anything, the site sells itself really, just suggesting that you and all the others out there who think that the Vortex is the whole of the site, might consider taking a better closer look at what this fine apostolate really does produce. It is really quite good.

Thousands of people pay to access these programs, and it grows every day. Check it you, I think you will be very very surprised.

Well, now that my name is brought into this, there needs to be some clarification against the continual rash judgment of being a slanderer.

In Credo’s proselytizing defense of MV, she invited the readers to listen to MV’s conversion story. In that video, he admits he was “steeped in mortal sin.” He says, you know the story of St. Augustine? Well, fill in the blanks.

I did just that.

St. Augustine lived in Carthage, a hotbed of homosexuality that caused the demise of Rome when they conquered this city. It was a well known fact, like Sodom. He says on page 53 of his “Confessions” that “my soul and his soul were one soul in two bodies.” He grieved so much over his death that he was ready to commit suicide. That is not just a casual relationship between two male friends, IMO.

But what is so awful about “fessing up” as I encouraged him to do to help others?. St. Augustine did it in a book that has helped thousands (millions?) of people convert to a holy life. Who is to say, if they asked MV, whether he really WAS in a relationship of this sort prior to his conversion? Did they inquire? And if he was, so what? There was no hint that he is presently a “closet homosexual” whatsoever! Mary Magdalene is in the scriptures for zillions to see that she WAS a sinner. What does that prove if anyone would repeat it … that one is committing slander? Not at all. She became a saint, just as all of are invited to do - reform our lives and use our witness to help others.

Liza and Credo need to get a life and stop stalking every post that mentions his name. They really look foolish.
This is calumny against a Saint in heaven. That is not proof that Augustine committed that sin…

Especially when you jump to conclusions so superficially… I don’t even understand the logic behind how that connects ALLL the way to Michael Voris’ conversion story since he used discretion anyway. It could imply the typical worldy male. Etc. I did not get a hint he was referring to any of the sort. ( It says more about someone who thinks everyone must have done the sin of sodom)

I do recall, St. Teresa of Avila identifying with St. Augustine’s Confessions. Does that mean she was guilty of specific sins? I believe she didn’t have to struggle with the sins against Chastity , so again, to go from that flimsy allusion to St. Augustine , and therefore imply it about another person, who points to Augustine as someone they relate to in having a “past”

Maybe Voris threw a bunch pears at pigs for all we know.

I am more irked by the claims against St. Augustine.
such an unwise and irresponsible use of the tongue…

It is these same accusations that Homosexuals use against Church members and Historic figures among St. Augustine to Jesus himself.

It’s basic knowledge among Catholics to know that centuries earlier people didn’t have the same (debased 21st century ) view on friendship and the words involving different kinds of Love, then the meaningless intimacy. Intimacy wasn’t interpreted in concluding it always ended sexually, and this is observed a lot when studying how earlier figures described their friendships…

and if you read Confessions on a whole you would see the context of which Augustine grieved over a friend of his who died, and it had nothing to do with sexual laisons since Augustine talks about how he couldn’t give up women while delaying his conversion.

Another section, of Confessions , Augustine condemns the sin of sodom and speaks of it, not as one, who seemed to be "guilty " of it personally, but of disgust.

Just because homosexuality existed at the time in the use of the term “hotbed” doesn’t invite such flimsy specious deductions — so everyone who lived in San Francisco today?, and wasn’t living a chaste life, then writes a book alluding to “they used to be sinful” everyone should jump to the conclusion, that they engaged in the sin of Sodom??

“His soul and my soul were one in two bodies " how is it not possibly , a modern day, allusion between two dudes, “twins in a womb” or " brothers from another mother” believe me, back then, aristotlean idea of , “friendships” existed, much more frequency then.

The insinuation is so reckless, it’s no better than when people try to project 21st century assumptions onto people as late as the 18th century and conclude something perverse, to the back to the first century with Jesus and the apostles…

Anyway, very bad cheap shot if anyone has a problem with any public member of the Body’s approach or style and his apostalate, then pray for them, rather than showing partiality towards this personality or that. We realize we are all bumbling are way in how best to do God’s will daily.

Thanks, Liza, but I already have an account there. I was one of the first to sign up, and initially enjoyed the shows, but soon came to realize how unfulfilling politicizing religion is to the soul. That he has many fine videos online is great to hear. Unfortunately for him and for others, the so-called “cowardly” bishops only hear about the ones which seem to relish in scandal and publicly excoriating other Catholics.

As I’ve said many times - if it’s not your cup of tea … move along.

If you had a membership and acknowledge all those many uplifting videos and programs that Liza listed, then why did you ask the questions above in the first place, giving the impression that you were NOT aware of them, and painting a picture that there were no uplifting videos?
