****Proposal 2 is Deliberately Deceptive **
**

The language of proposal 2 is deliberately deceptive. For the last two years, Representative Andrew Meisner and Senator Gretchen Whitmer have been working in the Michigan legislature to legalize human cloning and allow for unrestricted experimentation on live human embryos. Their legislative efforts have to date failed. In January, the Stem Cell Research Ballot Question Committee announced petition language for the proposed constitutional amendment.

“…conducted and provided in accordance with state and local laws of general applicability…” - Sounds like that’s the loophole…

The only possible reason for cloning is the chance for embryonic $tem cell$. How ludicrous. Even if you don’t agree with the idea that you’re trying to create life in order to murder it, what about the scientific data that shows that these cells have never been proven to be of any more medical value than adult stem cells? At least adult stem cells have a proven history of their efficacy. Embryonic stem cells are only supposed to be of value. How absurd!!! How can a “thinking” mind abandon a proven method for a maybe, might, sounds like it could method? The incredible gullibility of people who seem to hide their head in the sand and follow the outrageous ideas of those who’ll profit $ignificantly by our own demi$e, never ceases to amaze me!!!

one sad thing tho among the uneducated people, some think embryos are “just” eggs that we loose every month anyways. and then when you try to explain that they are fertilized eggs, a baby, they don’t care anyways because some family member has this or that disease and they want a cure! how do we get thru to these kinds of people?

I understand what you’re saying, but golly, gee whiz… Of course, some people don’t hold our same convictions of whether an embryo is a human life or just a matter of cells. However, wouldn’t ya think that (especially desperate) people would wanna go with what’s already been proven to work and not go with the unknown, unproven, uncharted things? Perhaps, we need to cut back a little on the arguments about the morality of the issue, but rather reach out with reason and logic of what’s scientifically been shown to be true.

Adult stem cells are the only proven source of stem cells. All other stem cells (i.e. embryonic) merely sound like they could become a possible savior for some. However, this is all just conjecture which has not been tried and found true by scientific theory. Religion, moral standards, right and wrong set aside. Why would anyone possibly want to go with an unproven when there’s a proven most readily available?? Makes absolutely no logical sense to me!!

“A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” Isn’t that the forte of one particular thinking group? But, isn’t that what people are doing every day; throwing their own minds and thought processes to the wind each time they jump on a super-hyped bandwagon without researching and giving it their own reasonable thought?

i know that the adult stem cells already have cures, but, they aren’t advertised or promoted by the MSM. the only thing the MSM talks about are the embryonic stem cells. they’re gonna save the world!.

many people have never even heard of adult stem cell research because they have a very limited range for gathering news 🤷 😦

Then, I’d say that it would be our responsibility (people like you and I who are informed) to inform others. We should be doing whatever we can to make the words “Adult Stem Cells” as widely known as embryonic cells. Our priests and our pastors should be mentioning this in their homilies. Parishioners should be taking that new knowledge out into our daily lives. Kind words of rebuttal when the use of embryonic cells is talked about. Letters to the editor can get the truth out.

I have been following prop 2 closely, trying to objectively evaluate whether or not this is in the best interest of our society.

I understand full well, the concerns of those who do not wish to diminish the sanctity of life, and more so, wish to protect the unborn.

It must be known that Prop 2 actually goes further to protect these wishes, and does nothing to counteract Michigans ban on cloning.

“(1) Nothing in this section shall alter Michigan’s current prohibition on human cloning.”

In accordance with the wishes of this forum, I will not paste in all of portions 2a-c, but will react to them by topic:
14 day limitation: The reason the 14 day limitation is set here, is because until such point, no cells within the embryo have yet begun to specialize. In effect, they are all exactly the same. It is clear to me, that this is put in strictly for the acknowledgment of life in the womb. This article protects embryos which venture into the clear realm of individualized human life.
Embyros may only come from fertility treatment excess: This is to strictly AVOID abuse of fertilization for purposes of harvesting embryos. Many may take offense to the notion of fertility treatments. Consider, though, that such is already legal. how could we simply discard such life, when we could at least learn a bit more about ourselves, and realize the amazement of how intricate life is? To me, this brings value to life which is otherwise needlessly discarded.

The third part I must quote: “(c) No person may, for valuable consideration, purchase or sell human embryos for stem cell research or stem cell therapies and cures.” When concerned with the sanctity of life, how could anyone not want our legislation to prohibit profit on human embryos?

I believe that MiCause is intentionally misleading the people, preying on fears to avoid a very morally beneficial piece of legislation from being enacted.

We must move forward in research carefully. Many questions will arise in the future, which may threaten our moral foundations. This, however, is not that legislation.

The portion of the provision which is being highlighted by MiCause is there to protect the article, itself. It specifically and undeniably restricts the protection to the provisions I’ve talked about here. Please do not try to defeat something so pivotal to promoting safe and morally conscious science.

Prop2 will not in any way result in more embryo deaths. Rather, it will move toward establishing more limitations on what is already legal.

14 days, 3 days, a half hour, regardless, its still a HUMAN embryo.

and constitutional amendment? for a science project? sounds fishy to me.

I have seen ONE vote yes on 2 sign.
In front of an abortion clinic.
Hmmmm…can’t say I wasn’t expecting it.

i just saw one go up here in my neighborhood 😦
there are many more NO signs tho 👍
I have done the research. I do not vote out of an emotional response, but rather out of an informed decision. I have a vote no on 2 sign in my front yard!

The sanctity of life is God-given according to the constitution. What civilized thought process can condone the murder of innocent humans/people/babies??? What??? In this country do we not protect all human life? Isn’t it a crime of double homicide in most states if you murder a woman who is pregnant? So, if the state recognizes the fetus as a human in those cases, why would it not recognize that same fetus as a human in an abortion/cloning clinic and afford him/her the same rights? Murder is murder, no matter the stage or station in life.

i attended a workshop the other night and the priest who was leading it said he was approached by a parishioner who’s husband has parkinson’s and that she HAS to vote for prop 2.

we need to appeal to these people that adult stem cell research has had more success than embryonic research.

The notion that Adult Stem Cell research is somehow “more effective” simply because research began on it first, is a logical fallacy. This trap is very disappointing to see. Also, those who are basing their decision on the total number of road signs they see are simply falling victim to social norming.

As for the notion that this is in someway permitting the destruction of more embryos, READ the article. It only applies to those lives which are to be disposed of otherwise!!! So where are these extra embryo deaths coming from? The majority of opponents of Prop 2 are being mislead that this is some new-fangled form of research that will pave the way for commercialization of embryo creation, when it SPECIFICALLY does the OPPOSITE:

“(c) No person may, for valuable consideration, purchase or sell human embryos for stem cell research or stem cell therapies and cures.”

Why again, wouldn’t you possibly want this legislated?!?!

again i ask, why a constitutional amendment for a science project?
