One Billion? :bigyikes:
Michigan teen buys billionth iTune song
WEST BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., Feb. 24 (UPI) – A Michigan teenager has purchased the billionth song from Apple Computer’s iTunes Music Store.
For his 99 cent purchase of Coldplay’s “Speed of Sound,” Alex Ostrovsky, 16, of West Bloomfield Hills, Mich., won a 20-inch iMac, 10 iPods, a $10,000 gift card for the iTunes store, and a scholarship in his name at New York’s Juilliard School, the New York Times reported Friday.
The person does not live too far from me.

I will probably look at buying some iTunes as soon as I findish loading my CD’s

Peace be with you!

This kid does not need a scholarship if he can afford to buy a billion songs on iTunes. Aren’t they a dollar each??? How rich are his parents???

Ridiculous that he gets a scholarship for being rich and I can’t even get work study.

In Christ,

He was the person who bought it. It was the Billionth total of all downloads.

Right. He made the billionth purchase. No one will live long enough to download even a million songs–even if done constantly.

My husband just got an i-pod and we were surprised when we searched, and could not find, any Radiohead! I think they maybe had a few songs, but they have like 4 albums. Whats up with that. Walmart downloads are cheaper, I think 89cents.

I don’t understand why someone would want 10 ipods. I have a blk 60 gig video and that’s enough for me. I get a lot of my songs for free from importing my friends CDs.

Matt,

FYI, downloading a friend’s CD is against the license (also known as illegal). The license is for the use by the original purchaser (holder of the original CD) only.

If it were illeagal they’d make it so that you could only import the songs once. It can be done. Record Companies break the law all the time with payola. They find all kinds of loopholes to pay radio stations to pay songs by their artists. Google “how radio stations use indys to get radiostations to play their artists”. Some company had to recintly pay huge fines for payola.

Piracy is not what is costing record companys money, producing BAD records is. Look at the ratings for the grammies VS. the ratings for american idol. Idol: 30M viewers, Grammies: 9M viewers. People are tired of the lack of talent on the music scene. There just isn’t any Elvis, Beatles or Led Zeplin around who wow anybody.

Not sure what the law in the USA is, but matt, I don’t think your (most recent) comment is all that relevant anyway. Just because record companies break the law and produce trash doesn’t mean it’s okay for us to break the law. Another way to put it is, even if others sin, and even if your sin isn’t hurting anyone else, it is still a sin.
