Tjena, (I’ll write in English from now on, I think it’s the rules)

The vast majority of people on this site won’t know what you really mean, midsommar in Sweden is uniquely Swedish (and therefore moreso pagan), although some other countries have something similar. There are a few links to Catholicism, but it’s not really a Catholic celebration or holiday.

Check out this site I found:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midsommar

So you can take a look at what some Catholic countries (like Ireland) do, but I would just break out the midsommarglädje and leave it for what it’s worth.

Are they planning anything at your parish?

How to Celebrate !!

One… It is also the Birthday of St. John the Baptist. So celebrate is birthday by going to mass.

Two… Read or watch the movie… Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer’s Night Dream”

Frid och allt gott!
I will celebrate midsommar at a Lutheran church and then go to a Catholic Mass (or Coptic Liturgy).
But here in Stockholm there are no high Masses this day. Shouldn’t they celebrate this holy Nativity with a high Mass?

In the British Isles the only midsummer celebrations I’ve heard of are linked to paganism such as those who go to Stonehenge. I’ve never known or heard of any Catholic practices associated with midsummer. As other posters have said the only major Catholic holy day at this time is the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. In our national calendar in England the actual day (21st June) was the obligatory memorial of St. Aloysius Gonzaga.
