This Sunday, I think I’m going to attend the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. However, I don’t own a missal for this form of the Mass and I was wondering if they had them at the Church or if I needed my own. I don’t really have any time to buy one since it’s Friday night.
I plan on wearing a suit and know to receive Holy Communion on the tongue and not say amen. Anything else, you think I should know?

Hi, if you try to follow a missal, and hopefully they will have the small red paperback ones, I’d suggest just reading the rubrics and follow all the priest is doing. Reading the prayers of the Mass requires more page flipping, and you will probably get lost.

You can however, print the day’s propers out here

At midnight Saturday, Sunday’s Mass propers will appear.

Lots of info to prepare here as well

If it’s a Missa Cantata or a Solemn High Mass, you will be in for a treat. Again, once you know the priest’s rubrics, it’s fairly easy to follow along and find your place in the missal. For example, he reads the Epistle on the side of the Altar to your right, and the Gospel on the left.

Dominus vobiscum !

EDIT : and of course, the Low mass is reverent and fitting as well. If it’s not a High Mass, the Mass will be followed by the Prayers ordered by the Pope, beginning with all kneeling and praying 3 Aves

My first time at the EF Mass, I allowed myself to be engulfed in the beauty and mystery of the Mass, without the missal. You just might find yourself moved to tears… especially at a High Mass. Learn the prayers, in Latin then follow in the missal. After a while you will be able to follow without a missal.

Watching for the “sign posts” can help you know where you are in the Mass. The most obvious ones will be the Kyrie Eleison, Gloria, Epistle, Gospel, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei. As you become more familiar with this rite of the Mass you will pick up on more subtle ones. God be with you!

I was fighting back tears before the priest reached the foot of the altar. And at the rail.
