Might miss Easter Mass

I’m going on a camping trip with my wife and son. Long story short, I’ve been a poor husband and father and our marriage is shaky. Wife doesn’t appreciate my newfound faith and son has fallen away. I can drive 40 miles to nearest Mass but it starts a 9 am. By the time I get back, it could be 11:30. This could create problems with hiking plans for Sunday morning.

I wish there was a priest camping there on Easter that can say Mass. I’ve been advised by a spiritual counselor not to shove religion into my wife’s face and to try to work it in gradually if I can. I foresee trouble.

Thoughts? Advice?

Explain the situation to you pastor and ask his advice and whether or not you need a dispensation and whether he will give you one.

This is not a question for strangers on the internet who will give you 10 different answers. No one here has authority over you, we cannot say “go” or “you are excused”.

I’m assuming you are being received into the Church on Easter?

Family restoration is important. I’d talk to the pastor about it- set up a meeting and voice your concerns. Not everyone is received into the Church on Easter. I was just confirmed in February.

Best wishes

1ke, you’re right. Needed some bounce back is all, and you gave me some.

Turns out our plans were changed. We are hosting Easter for extended family now. My prayer now is hat the Lord softens my wife’s heart and she joins me in Mass.

Thanks

That’s good.
FYI, camping with a spouse is something that should only be attempted by the strongest of couples in the strongest of marriages. ;). And even then expect the unexpected!

And I would offer that couples canoeing is even more risky, seeing as how it led to the one thing my dear late wife never really forgave me for, namely my clumsily steering into a midstream rock, resulting in a quarter size scar on her shin. 😊

I’m facing a similar situation this Christmas to be honest. It’s an awkward one when attending mass interferes with everyone’s plans.

You know, I am a pretty recent convert (9 years), and it could have been me writing this kind of thing (my spouse doesn’t support my faith, etc.).
Now, It’s hard for me to believe sometimes, but he has totally returned to the faith, never misses Mass, has become involved with Knights of Columbus (he has a really strong devout group). You never know what might happen! Sometimes you just have to try to be low-key, and just try to keep doing the right thing.
I wish you all the best!

I wanted to respond again, I read some prayer requests from the OP.
I just want LMU to know that you have my prayers. And you should do whatever is best for your marriage. Keep us informed!
