It has often been said on this section of the forum that the mormons give milk before meat. And this is said in criticism of the mormons. And yet, in the KJV bible we find the same principle. I think that the criticism that mormons give milk before meat should now be laid to rest.

I found this today in the New Testament: 1 Corinthians Chapter 3:

1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

It seems that Paul was also feeding the early church, milk before meat because of the carnal nature of the human being. And then we have this verse from Hebrews chapter 5, verse 12-14:

12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

And then finally, 1 Peter chapter 2:1-2:

1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.

And so, the mormons may have gotten it right. Milk should be before meat.

Wow, why me opened a Bible! 😉

“Milk before meat” as encouraged in the Bible is simply a pragmatic method of teaching: start simple and then build on it. You’ll note that Paul isn’t saying to lie outright. Mormons have taken “milk before meat” and twisted/redefined it to mean “conceal the truth until we get 'em dunked.”

Actually, you know and I know that the criticism that is voiced on this forum is that the mormons feed milk to new converts or investigators. It seems that Paul is encouraging the same. People need to be ready for the meat. Such is what Paul is saying.

Not quite. What truth is being concealed? True meat is not given rightaway. But eventually it is learned.

I can also claim the Paul is concealing truth by just encouraging the milk first. I see no difference between the two.

That’s because you’re a Mormon.

Paul was not talking about using a delibarately deceptive practice to lure people as it is employed by Mormonism, Scientology and the like.

Milk before meat is one thing, but junk food isn’t good. And poison is even worse, even if it tastes good.

He who has ears to hear…

Why me,

You can not be so blind as to not see the difference between what is written in the Bible about the milk before meat, and what the Mormons are talking about.

I the Bible they are not not talking of hiding anything from them it is more of like in first grade you learn to add and subtract. Then ins the second grade they start with multiplication and division.
You and then over time expand upon them.

example to lie is a sin = basic milk
a lie of omission is also a sin= meat

That is very simple stated but gives an idea of what is meant.

Within the LDS you have them talking about God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost as if they are the Same as what Catholics and the Bible teach of the Trinity. it is only later that they reveal that they believe all 3 separate gods. The whom they see as god once was a man that became god. That he lives on some far off planet and that we like Jesus and god can become gods of our own worlds as well.

Do you see the difference? one is building upon what has already been taught. the other is changing what has been taught to something else.

Do you sse

**In other words, you tell people right off that Mormons call it the Virgin Birth by courtesy only, right?

Or that the entity Mormons call God the Father had a father before him, and grandfathers, and great grandfathers, and that God did not create the universe, but the universe created the gods: you’re up front about that from the start, right?

Either that, or you’re admitting that you don’t tell people what true Mormon doctrine is at first.

Pay lay ale is, at best a beer marketed by a Brazilian soccer star. And Mormonism can give neither health to the sinews nor marrow in the bone, because there is no power in their priesthood for themselves or their descendants or anyone else forever.**

Why me, why did you only post part of the text? You stopped at verse 3. Read the entire chapter in context.
What Paul is telling them is that the Corinthians have not yet attained true wisdom and are still unspiritual and that is why they have so many divisions…
These divisions come because they have confused the Gospel with the skill of their preachers.
Look at how Paul uses the simile of a child and an adult. They must be fed with milk and not meat, not solid food.
Paul is telling them that they are failing to understant the role of ministers. The minsiters are working for themselves instead of building up the whole church. Please read it ALL and in context.

Your use of words are quite explosive. But at the time of Paul the pagans could use the same vocabulary that you are now using against him. And perhaps they did.

Paul and others state quite plainly that people, because of their carnal nature need the milk first. The rest would be concealed until a good time to bring it forth. In lds meetings, new members are encouraged to go to gospel principles and then to gospel doctrine. My point, milk before meat is in the new testament. Something that many critics of the lds church probably did not know when they made their criticism.

I have no idea what was being taught in the early church that was considered milk except the gospel in its simple oracles. The meat was left out until people were ready for it. This is what the verses that I quoted mean. New followers of christ were treated like new born babes.

I did. But you seemed to miss verse 2:

I found this today in the New Testament: 1 Corinthians Chapter 3:

1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

I think that you are off point according to these verses.

I’ll ask again, is it true that Mormons teach Father Son and Holy Ghost are three seperate gods?

Paul and others state quite plainly that people, because of their carnal nature need the milk first. The rest would be concealed until a good time to bring it forth.
What a horribly offensive twisting of Scripture.

Paul is NOT telling us to lie or conceal. He is likening the new Christian to a small child, who must be nourished along the way to spiritual maturity. It’s so straightforward; a person really has to mangle it to get to the Mormon interpretation.

Ok, then please point out in scriptures where there were secrets specifically taught as the temple ceremony is. That is, where are the scriptures that tell us the meat is secret handshakes, tokens, special underwear, annointing body parts, etc.?

These “secrets” have to be identified somewhere in scriptures or they were made up by a man 1800 years after the death and resurrection of the Lord.

This has to apply to the topic as Mormons have said they can’t talk about the “meat”, the temple ceremony, as taught by Christ. Therefore it appears they use this as justification to keep from telling converts about the ceremony up front. To us it appears that is not spoken about in order to “hook” a convert in as deeply as possible before revealing that which would make anyone walk away if it were spoken about early in the conversion process.

Not really. It was not that long ago where I read criticism of the mormons giving milk before meat. It seems that such an idea is in the bible.

We have no idea what was milk and what was meat at the time of Paul. But it does seem that new christians were treated gently and Paul did not want to give meat before the right time to prevent people from departing the faith. And in that letter, they were still not ready for the meat. What was Paul ‘concealing’ from the early christians? What was the meat?
